Today has been a very busy one with
the county clerk and his deputies
County court is in session, probate court
has just adjourned, and its proceedings
are to be taken care of, while circuit
conrt begins next week, and the docket
must be prepared, and a thousand and
one other things must be attended to.
Four important deeds were filed today;
one was from J. W. Clarno to Duncan
McRoe, consigning 320 acres from $2750 ;
another- from Ida Jones to the same
grantee, deeding eighty acres for the
consideration of $500; a third from
Isaac Jenkins, conveying eighty acres
for $500; and the fourth from H. II.
Johnson and wife to C. C. Connelly,
transferring 162 acres in return for
$1000.

have no hesitation in recommending Dr,
King's New Discovery, as the results
were almost marvelous in the case of my
wife. While I was pastor of the Baptist
Church- at River Junction she was
brought down with Pneumonia succeed
ing La Grippe. Terrible paroxysms of
4 coughing would last hours with little in
terruption and it seemed as if she could
not survive them. A friend recom
mended Dr. King's New Discovery ; it
was Quick in its work and highly satis

Major Post and the Locks.
Major Post, who has just returned
from a tour with Receiver McNeil, while
in Pendleton submitted to a newspaper
interview. The Tribune of yesterday
contained the following:
Major Post, who accompanied Major
McNeil on his trip, is in temporary
charge of the government worn in thie
state, baying been instructed io iook
after the improvements until the arrival
of Captain Symons successor. In speak
ing of the Cascade locks. Major Post said
that the work would not be completed
for a year or so. Considerable material
will have to be removed from the en
trance to the locks. Everything consid
ered. Major Post says, boats will not be
able to paes through for a year or so.
Sneaking of the tnrther improvement
of Yaquina bay, Major Post said that the
report of the engineers baa Deen niea
and that he was not in a position to talk
about the matter.
In his statement that the boats will
not pass through the locks for a year or
more, we sincerely hope that Major Post
is in error. The contractors at the locks
are free to state as their belief that the
locks will be sufficiently completed by
early spring to admit of the passage of
boats. Should this not be the case there
will be universal disappointment
throughout Eastern Oregon. The
weather has been and still is of the kind
moat suitable for rapid work and those
who have visited the locks recently are
satisfied with the manner in which
progress is being made. Several months
ago it was thought possible that boats
would pass through the canal by Christ
mas. This is seen now to be clearly im
possible, but there seems to be no ex
cuse, unless eometbing enouia happen
between now and then, to prevent a
boat coming from Portland to The
Dalles by March 1st. Should Major
Post proved to be right an explanation
is due from some one.

Cod-liver oil suggests
consumption, which is al
most unfortunate.
Its best' use is before you
fear consumption ; when
you begin to get thin, weak,
run-down ; then is the pru
dent time to begin to take
care, and the best way to
take care is to supply the
system with needed tat and
strength. Scott's Emulsion
of cod-liver oil, with hypo
phosphites, will bring back
plumpness to those who
have lost it, and make
strength where raw cod
liver oil would be a burden.
