NOT A SICK DAY For Over Thirty Years! EESULT OF USING AVER'S P ILLS " Ayer's Cathartic I'ills for over thirty years have kept me in gooil health, never having had a sick (lay in all that time. Before I was twenty I suffered almost continually as a result of con stipation from dyspepsia, headaches, . neuralgia, or hoils and other eruptive diseases. When I became convinced that nine-tenths of my troubles were caused by constipation, I began the use of Ayer's Pills, with the most satisfac tory results, never having a singlo attack that did not readily yield to this remedy. My wife, who had been nn invalid for years, also began to uso Ayer's Pills, and her health was quickly restored. With my children I had no ticed that nearly all their ailments wi re preceded by constipation, and I soon had the pleasure of knowing that with rUildren as with parents, Ayer's PHls, if taken in season, avert all dancer of sickness." The success of the fair held in The Dalles last month was of Each a gratify--! ing nature that there has been a general hope expressed that preparations be made during the year for a meeting next fall. Among all thediscrict fairs which have been held this season none.have surpassed the one here in points of ex hibits or attendance. Some time ago the statement was made that horsemen were trying to arrange a circuit by which the best norses in the Northwest can visit each meeting. The following let ter, addressed to J. O. Mack, secretary ot the fair association, is explanatory of this proposal. Mr. Wisdom is manager of the North Pacific Rural Spirit, a journal devoted td agriculture, live stock and the turf. J. O. Mack, Sec, The Dalles, Or. : Dear Sir : At a meeting'of the horse men, convened at Salem during the State Fair for the parpose of organizing a North Pacific Racing Circuit, I was in structed to correspond with you and as certain if The Dalles would-rifce to join the ci rcuit for the next year. The horse men propose to make their entries in such purses as may hereafter be sug gested, and in case the receipts of the association failed to pay the purses so advertised, after deducting all legiti mate expenses for the conducting of the meeting, they will take a pro rato of net rece.pts (provided however that no ex pente be charged for putting the track in condition). You will see by this the association takes no chance of losing, but has a chance to make something; if the receipts more than pay the ex penses. Horsemen are willing to take their chances on smaller purses if they can get a circuit arranged whereby thev can race every week, instead of one or two meetings a year, as has been the case heretofore. We want you to act as committeeman for The Dallep, and as certain as soon as possible the feeling there in regard to this matter. Each town should be induced to donate some thing toward a movement of this kind, as it would be a good drawing card. Races will be so arranged that new horses will be coming together at each meeting. Awaiting your prompt reply, I am xours Very iruly, M. D. Wisdom. List of Premiums Continued. There had been some delay in getting the premium list ready for publication, but the books are now entered and the names of the successful exhibitors will be published in The Chronicle. I have received direct from the Island of Ceylon a large consignment of its justly celebrated teas. The extraordin ary success which has attended the grow ing of the tea plant in Ceylon is phenom enal. ' Ten or twelye years ago a few planters experimented growing -tea, (the coffee crop, for which the island was formerly famous, being entirely de stroyed by a blight) with the result that Great Britain alone consumes annually 190,000,000 pounds of these teas which would be a small matter to what would be consumed in our country, when Americans realize the splendid qualities of Ceylon. These teas are prepared by modern machinery and picked by the natives with gloved hands and are in comparable in their strength, purity and flavor. Economy is also a most important factor in the use of these teas ; one pound being equal in strength to two pounds of China,, it is only necessary to use half the quantity you would of any other. To make good tea is a .very simple matter. Use an earthenware teapot and pour on the water as soon as it boils, allowing five minutes to draw. Water which has been previously boiled should never be used. W. A. Johnston, Up-to-Date Groceryman. lost. One hundred and fifty head of sheep up around Mt. Hood last summer.
