Settllnff a Chilean Claim.
New Ycrk, Aug. 22. The Herald's
correspondent in Sucre, Bolivia, tele
graphs that a meeting of the cabinet was
held to consider the treaty settling the
claim of Chile in regard to the boundary
question. Only the minister of loreign
affairs, Senor Ichisal, voted for the treaty
as proposed, the other four ministers
voting in the negative and vigorously
opposing the measure. President Batis
ta was silent, but after the meetiDg
said :
"J do, as president, accept, approve
and will eustain the treaty. I will also
take the responsibility of sending it to
congress for ratification."
It is said that President Batista has
eecured enough votes in the senate to
sustain hia action, but he fears some of
the deputies are not to be trusted.

Pains in the small of the back indicate
a diseased condition of the kidneye.
Owing to the dangerous nature of the
dieases which attack those organs it is
important that measures should be
taken to remove the trouble before it
has become too firmly fixed. Prudence
would suggest the prompt use of Dr. J.
H. McLean's Liver and Kidney Balm
which basspecfic action on the liver and
kidneys and will cauee an early restora
tion to healthy conditions. Price $1.00
per bottle.
A Hotel liurnt. .
Nyack, N. Y., Aug. 22. The Grand
Union hotel, at Congers took fire at 4
o'clock this morning, and, with contents,
was totally destroyed. The loss is $85
000. In jumping from a window, Wil
liam A. Webb, a guest, broke a leg, but
otherwise was not seriously injured.
You cannot work well unless you feel
well. No one can feel well with a dis
ordered liver or diseased kidney. Dis
eases in the organs ehould receive
prompt attention, as neglect will lead to
much misery and sorrow. Dr. J. H.
McLean's Liver and Kidney Balm should
be taken as soon as the first symptoms
of trouble are manifest. It is well
known to all dealers in medicine as a
safe and reliable cure for diseases in the
liver or kidneys. Price 1.00 per bot

Washington, Aug. 22. The acting

Mr. C. G. Strong, principal of the
public schools at Anderson, Cal., says:
"I have used Chamberlain's Pain Balm
and have found it an excellent remedy
for lameness and slight wounde."
Lameness usually results from a sprain,
or other injury, or from rheumatism, for
which Chamberlain's Pain Balm is es
peciaily intended and unequalled. It
affords almost immediate relief and in a
short time effects a permanent cure.

Bishop in her lifetime.
There comes a time to all of us, when
we feel mean and "out of sorts" and in a
condition to invite disease. IE is then
we need such a remedy as Dr. J. H. Mc

sickness or overwork its invigorating
influence is surprising, promptly restor

Ayer's Sarsaparilla enjoys the extra
ordinary distinction of having been the
only blood purifier allowed an exhibit
at the World's Fair, Chicago. Manu
facturers of other earsaparilia sought by
every means to obtain a showing of their
goods, but they were all turned away
under the application of the rule fore
bidding the entry of patent medicines
and nostrums. The decision of the
World's fair authorities in favor of
Ayer's Sarsaparilla was in effect as fol
lows : "Ayer's Sarbaparilla is not a
patent medicine. It does not belong to
the list of nostrums. It is here on its
merits." -
