Ghe Has Ever Known. Words of Praise
from a New York Lady for
AYSR'SPILLS
"I would like to add my testimony to
that of others who have used Ayer's
Fills, and to say that I have taken them
for many years, and always derived the
best results from their use. For stom
ach and liver troubles, and for the cure'
of headache caused by these derange
ments, Ayer's Pills cannot be equaled.
4v
When my friends ask me what is tbo
best remedy for disorders of the stor.
aeh, liver, or bowels, my invariable
answer is, Ayer's Fills. Taken in sea
son, they will break up a cold, prevent
ra grippe, check fever, and regulate the
digestive organs. They are easy to
take, and are, indeed, the best all-round
family medicine I have ever known."
Mrs. May Johnson, 3C8 Rider Avenue,
New York City.

Still at Work In the Bains.
New York, Aug. 10. The work of
clearing aw-iy the ruins of tbo collapsed
building nt West Broadway and West
Third, will probably not be finished
within two days. The missing are:
Patrick Cashin, Brooklyn:' James Gris
eo, New York; Edward Hanley, Brook
lyn; William Hayes, Brooklyn; Peter
Morini, New York; Thomas McGuire,
Jersey City ; John Murphy, B.ooklyn ;
Cnriatopher Rourke, Brooklyn ; George
Smith, New York.
Pains in the small of the back indicate
a diseased condition of the kidneys,
Owing to the dangerous nature of the
dieaees which attack those organs it is
important that measures should be
taken to remove tho trouble before it
Las become too firmly fixed. Prudence
would suggest the prompt use of Dr. J.
II. McLean's Liver and Kidney Balm
which has specfic action on the liver and
kidneys and will cause an early restora
tion to healthy conditions. Price $1.00
per bottle.
Many students Coming;.
Berkeley, Cal.; Aug. 10. The Uni
versity of California will open for the
now term, next Monday, and already
students are coming in. The recorder
announces that the incoming freshman
claes will be the largest in the history of
the university, there being 500 appli
cants for admission.
There are so many accidents to live
stock whicn cause delay and loss to the
farmer in his work. In a large number
of instances the delay would be bat
trifling if a remedy was promptly applied.
Dr. J. H. McLean's Volcanic Oil Lini
ment has for many years been regarded
as tbo farmer's friend. Its healing on
flesh of domestic animals is immediate
and permanent. Price 25c, 60c and $1.00
per bottle. For sale at Snipes-Kineraly
Drug Co.
Almost a Cyclone.
Hennxbsy, O. T., Aug. 10. The worst
storm in years passed over th: section
last night. It wrecked several buildings
and did damage to the late corn. A car
was blown off the siding at Dover and
the north-bound Rock Island train dis
abled. A good deal of last year's wheat is
being brought into town and placed
for storage. The market will not open
for several weeks and the price is pure
ly nominal. Men of conservative judge,
ment think that when the market does
begin 50 cents willjbe the opening figure.
Some people expect it to go higher. If
present indications are any criteron the
farmer is going to receive a fair return
for this season of toil.
Peace Concluded.

, Klickitat Aneumnil Raised.
Parties in The Dalles, who own land
in Klickitat ounty, have received word
from the auditor at Goldendale notifying-them
that assessment on all prop
erty would be raised thirty per cent.
The notice reads as follows :
Golden-dale, Wash., Aug. 8, 1895.
"You are hereby notified to appear
before the board of equalization on or
before August 14, 1895, and show cause,
if arty, why your assessment, other than
moneys, notes and accounts, should not
be raised thirty per cent."
This is an indication that strenuous
efforts-are going to be made looking
towards the lessening of Klickitat's in
debtedness.
An Old lalles Teacher.
The following concerning Prof. David
Torbett will be of interest to many peo
ple in Tho Dalles. Prof. Torbett was
formerly instructor in mathematics in
the now dot u net Wasco Independent
Academy. The article is taken from the
Albany Heruid : .
Prof. Torbett of Albany college.'is one
of the most expert and original mathe
maticians in the state. It is a rare
treat to hear him explain ttie different
rules and formulas he has originated
himself, among them many proceeses
for shortening mathematical calculations
which are most practically applicable.
f An Aged Bridegroom.
Toronto, Aug. 10. Sir William P.
Howland, K. C. M.G., K. C. B., ex-lieutenant-governor
of Toronto, and presi
dent of the Confederation Life Assurance
Company, now in his 86th year, will
soon lead to the altar the widow of
James Bethune, late manager of the
Dominion bank. Their relatives are
strongly opposed to the match. Sir
William is an American by birth.
There comes a time to all of us, when
we feel mean and "out of sorts" and in a
condition to invite disease. It is then
we need such a remedy as Dr. J. H. Mc
Lean's Strengthening Cordial and Blood
Purifier. To persons exhausted by
yickneea or overwork its invigorating
influence is surprising, promptly restor
ing health, energy and cheerful spirits.

None But Ayer's at the Worlds fair.
Ayer's Sarsaparilla enjoys the extra
ordinary distinction of having been the
only blood purifier allowed an exhibit
at tho World's Fair, Chicago. Manu
facturers of other sarsaparilla sought by
every means to obtain a showing of their
goods, but they were all turned away
under tho application of the rule fore
bidding the entry of patent medicines
and nostrums. The decision of the
World's fair authontfes in favor of
Ayer's Sarsaparilla was in effect as fol
lows: "Ayer'a Sarbaparilla is not a
patent medicine. It does not belong to
the list of nostrums. It is here on its
merits."
