    WEATHER BVBK1V.
Weather Crop Untletln No 10 of the
Onion State Weather Service for
KuMra Oreroaw
Weather No rain baa fallen since the
4th and 5th of July. Then the rain was
very litfht south and east 6f the Blue
mountains and sufficiently heavy in the
Columbia and Walla Walla sections to
be of benefit. A warm wave passed over
this section on Wednesday, Thursday,
Friday and Saturday, when the temper
ature reached 90 to 98 degrees. Accom
panying the warm weather there was a
dry east to northeast wind. The full
average sunshine occurred.
Crops Notwithstanding the dry
weather recently, crops in Wasco and
Sherman counties are making good pro
gress. Showers which occurred during
the first week, of July furnished the
necessary moisture to bring them to
maturity. This is especially eoof grain,
which is now turning color and ripening
very rapidly. No fears are anticipated
as to the yield of the grain crop in these
countries. Within the past 10 days
there has come into this section millions
of grassoppers, but they came too late,
as crops are too far advanced to be injured
New potatoes are full grown and yield
ing well. Recent warm weather has
benefited the corn and bean crops. In
the counties of Morrow, Gilliam and
.Umatilla the rain which occured during
the early days of the month produced
only temporary benefits. Dry winds of
late have caused the grain to shrink :
frnit also has been injured on account of
the drought and is falling. Potatoes will
make a fair harvest crop in some sec
tions. Harvest will be hastened by the
dry weather. . On several days the dense
moke in this section served to protect
the crops from the scorching rays of the
eun. Though conditions have been un
favorable, there will be exceptions,
when there will be good yields and good
quality of grain. '
The Discovery Bared His Life.
Mr. G. Caillouette, druggist, Beavers

Discovery I owe my life. Was taken
with La Grippe and tried all the physi
cians for miles about, but of no avail,
and was given up and told I could not
live. Having Dr. King's New Discovery
in my store, I sent for a bottle and be
gan its UEe, and from the first dose be
gan to get better, and after using three
bottles was up and avout again. It is
worth its weight in gold. We won't
keep store or bouse without it." Get a

CONCERNING PIANOS.
Klanball's Methods a Meaiaee e

Chicafo Musical Mews. ' -r
The following advertisement hat been
given a prominent position in the daily
papers of Washington, D. C. and has
been printed in the Chicago Musical
News and the American Hebrew News,
of Portland. We desire to call the atten
tion of the publicio it. -..
The unfairness of the assertions it con
tains needs no emphasizing, for they
will appear at once to the senee of right
inherent in everv legitimate dealer in
pianos all over the country:
Next Tuedav will be a special bar
gain day on pianos at our store. We
liHvn found some grand bargains in new
Upright Pianos (not the celebrated Kim-
hall niano), and propose to give the
nuMic a chance to .wenre-new pianos
next Tu8lav at manufacturers' whole
sale prices.
The price" Tuesday next for these new
elegant Upright pianos will be only $149
and $159 each. Part time given if de
sired. These pianos will be on exhibit
at onr Btorri all day Monday, but no sales
will be made from" t his lot until Tuesday,
and will continue that day only.
W. W. Kimball, Co.-,
Metzerott Building, Cor. 12th and F. Sts,
The Kimball Company may regard
such methods as fair and honorable, but
they are open to the severest criticism in
attempting to destroy the piano trade in
Washington after many years of honor
able work to promote it.
The unfairness of the card lies in the
assertion that the pianos which are to
be cold at sacrificial prices are not made
ny the Kimball company. Therein is
the poison.
This whole scheme is perpetrated to
give the Kimball pianos a position to
which their merits do not entitle them.
Although the Kimball advertisement de
clares theee are not Kimball pianos
which are to be slaughtered it does not
enhance the value of their own instru
ments. Those who are familiar with, the Kim
ball pianos know perfectly well that the
makers can afford to sell them at just
such ruinous prices as are quoted for
other instruments in their possession at
Washington.
What is there in the Kimball piano to
justify this step? Nothing.
The Kimball company make one of the
cheapest pianos in the United States.
And after the Kimball piano is made
ready for the market it is not then worth
a place above a low rank.
Wlien you come to think of it, can you
name. any genuine, firstcla.es house that is
telling the Kimball pianos T
The Kimball managers may consider
they have made a brilliant stroke, .but
they are merely using gigantic power to
foist a cheap make on 'he market. .
The question is also one f a broader
conception than mere local purview..
Such advertisements as these cnt at the
root of the piano industry for they mis
lead private buyers.
We shall not let this subject stop here.
It is fraught with grave danger' to the
entire trade, and, although the Kimball
company is composed of schrewd schem
ers, they mav find they have far over
stepped the bounds ot legitimate busi
ness dealing.
