Dalles Delegate tte Grand .Lodge. To the Editor Brothers Varney, Burnett and Merrill etarte 1 on the early train from The Dalle on Tuesday morn ing for Forest Qrove, where the grand lodge of oar order is to hold' its cessions. The ride duwn the river was a pleasant one, anil the beautiful ennrit-e over the mountains, the mighty Columbia and green hills, and the waking up of the towne as we rode along, all added to the pleasure of the trip. rtioujth leaving The Dalles we were fteen minutes late, we arrived in Port land on time, and having plenty of lei ure to purchase onr tickets and obtain the nt-e-69ary certificates for receiving the reduced rate, we took the Southern Pacific train for Forest Grove 'and were again on our way. Oar. delegation was enlarged bv the addition of other Goad Templars..' Sister Robinson and Broth ers Mcintosh and Thomas from The Dalles and some from the . Cascades 3iddei materially to our strength. Arriving at Forest Grove, we were met by the reception . committee and -escorted to the I. O. G. T. ball, which seemed to ns about two miles away. At the hall we were given the district de gree, and after some more waiting the grand lodge was called to order by the grand chancellor, John Allwood, and -when it was properly opened, we were marched into the lodge room and given the grand lodge degree. Th-re are now seventy-three delegates on the roll, besides the grand officers, and the session promises to be a very .pleasant one. Scribbler. The city council has made a provision for a city pound and the marshal has been instructed to take np all cows run ning at large. This will be welcome news to property owners, whose shade -trees have served as refreshments to hungry bovines. City Marshal Blake ney announces his intention of carrying -oat Btrictly the determination of the council, and all cows found at large after this week will find a resting place lin the pound. . . '. 'The pension board met this morning at 10 o'clock in the office of Dr. Doane, ami examined several applicants for pensions, lne reports ot the examin ers are sent to Washington. It may not be generally known that The Dalles has a pension board, but such' is . the case, and it meets tit regular intervals. .Dr. Wo. Shackelford is president of the board, Dr. O. D. Doane secretary, and Dr. Hugh Logan treasurer. .Any one who has ever had an atack -of inflammatory rheumatism will rejoice -with Mr. J. A. Stumm, 220 Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, over his fortunate - escape from a siege of that distressing -ailment.
