He denied that the railway men fired the cars in the Illinois Central yards, and declared it was the work of the United Stales marshals sworn in at the instance of the General Managers Association. He cited instances where men were caught in the act of applying the torch and when arrested . by the police United States marshal badges were found on them. He said the 3,600 special deputy United States marshals sworn in were chosen from the sewers and the slums, and were men ol no character ; that the A. R. U. had won the fight and that the railway managers knew that unless public sentiment was changed they would have to back down, eo the riff-raff of the city were pressed into the dirty ' work of fire demons. He said there were no Pullman coaches burned, although many of the cars were in the yards, only cheap rolling stock and box cars being burned. He said that when the trial is contin ued in May. it will be shown "who the conspirators are." Mr. Debs explained privately that his tour is being made for the purpose of raising money to. pay the coBts of the suit and to carry the caae on appeal. It is ex ' pected it will take a few days before the ' bodies in the Central Pacific mine at the canyon, will be reached. The explosion wrecked the power-plant and several Vbuildings, entailing a heavy loss. The best information 6btainable places ''the number of victims at . 80. .Two bodies havs been taken out of the slope by rescuers who claim further progress is impeded by caves. The explosion is believed to have been caused by sparka from a blast setting fire to the dust. It is said the mine was wholly free from gas. In addition to the 80 mentioned, it. believed 10 lost their lives in the power house. A searching party is now ex ploring the Blopes of the mines. Gen eral mourning prevails throughout the place and nearly all the woman an children are assembled at the ecene of the disaster awaiting the news of dear ones. . Half a dozen bodies are already lying in the improvised deadhouse. The bodies of the following have been recovered: Willard Brown, Baptist Ju Jian, James Limb, Angel DermodI, all married, having big families, and two boys, VVillian Grieves and a son of J.R Slay. The following married men with larg iamiues are known to have been in the mine: Henry Burton, Samuel Holston Vieorge Hardy, David Lloyd. .William Sellers, sr., Thomas Hutchinsen, Samuel .Bates, Walter Miller, Henry Scotcbren Aaron Butt, George Cricket.
