The women aire all right to vote sure.
In Pendleton the election was hot, and
one of the ladies, whose vote was chal
lenged, is out in a card that sounds just
like a man had written it. She says :
"The pulpit local editor of the E. O.
voted a thirty-cent ticket, together with
most of the teachers and other trood
Christians, who are not yet through
with this matter by any means."
Women should vote, of course they
should.
One of the big white horses belongin
to the Teague Bros., and used by them
in their draying business, died last
night. He was quite an old animal and

that did his work cheerfully and un
flinchingly. He never reneged when

place where the good, though speechless
animals go after death, surely there will

WASHINGTON LETTER.
From our regular correspondent. J
Washington, March 8, 1895.
If the new Sibley silver party is not
more seriously regarded elsewhere than
it is in Washington it will cut no figure
whatever in national politics. The ex
ecutive committee of the Bi-Metallic
League, which is sponser for the new
party and author of the address which
announced its birth and the reason
therefor, attempted in turn to get the
consent of Senator Teller, of' Colorado,
and Cameron of Pennsylvania, to allow
the announcement of their names as the
presidential candidate of the new party
and upon their refusal it was decided
not to nominate, but merely to "eue-
est" a presidential candidate. The
an suggested was ex-Congressman
Sibley, of Pennsylvania, an eccentric
millionaire who has been republican.
democrat and populist all within the last
fifteen years, and who is probably ex
pected to put up the money to maintain
the headquarters which are to be opened
at once in Washington and kept open
If Sibley doesn't get tired of paying the
bills until the presidential election. It
as expected by 'the originators of this
arty that quite a number of influential
emocrata and a few republicans would
t once announce their endorsement of
t, but no such endorsement has 'been
given. On the contrary, even those
democrats who are supposed to have bad
a hand in hatching the new party, such
as Bland and Bryan, hastened to give it
a black eye by publicly saying they could
see no necessity for the organization of a
silver party until the democratic
national convention shall refuse to de
clare for free coinage. If the new party
has any republican endorsers they are
notknotfn. So far as known the only
notable recruits have come from the
populists, in the persons of Senators
Jones and Stewart, of Nevada, but there
are several obscure Southern democrats
in the deal.
It would be difficult to find an angrier
set of men than were the democratic ex
senators and representatives who had
hopes of executive favors, when they
learned that Mr. Cleveland had left
them in the lurch and gone off in search
of a good time. Some of them could not
control their anger, and used words in
the presence of Private Secretary Thur
ber which probably settled the little
chance they had for getting official
crumbs from the presidential table, but
the most of them smiled and hid their
disappointment as far as possible, and
will be on hand when Mr. Cleveland re
turns.
The names of twenty-five democratic
members of the last house who signed
that manifesto pledging the democratic
party to the free coinage of silver at a
ratio of 16 to 1, were published this
week, although no one seems to know
just why, as the number is eo ridicu
lously small' when compared with the
total democratic membership of the
Fifty-third congress. An amusing fea
tare of it was that the name of Repre
