He Is Suffering From Pneumonia in
Mexico.
Washington, Feb. 14. The following
dispatch has been received at the state
department from Bntler, charge
d'affaires of the American legation in
Mexico: "Minister Gray arrived this
morning very ill with pneumonia. He
is unconscious."

The steamer Regulator will make a
trip to Cascades on Monday, the 18th
inst., and will carry freight and passen
gers. On Wednesday, the 20th inst.,
the Dalles City will leave Portland and
the Regulator will leave The Dalles,
making through connection on usual

wharf on the 19th inst.

An AgeA Horse.
Aa old, or perhaps the oldest horse in
the United States died last week on the
Upper willow creek. The horse lacked
just one month of being 40 years old and
was the property of Mr. Rose, a farmer,
who had owned the animal since it was
eight years old. Mr. Rose deeply re
gretted the death of his old friend and
gave him a very respectable burial.
Baker City Democrat.
The Call Sued.
San Francisco. Feb. 14. John G.
Chase, a prominent Forrester, yesterday
brought suit against the Call for $50,000.
on account of the publication of an article
charging him with embezzling court
funds.
Baker City has fourteen men who
average 240 pounds in weight. The hea
viest weighs 299J pounds and the
lightest 201 pouuds. They are all over
six feet but two, one of them being 6
feet 6 inches, and another but half an
inch shorter.

Funeral of W. W. Stow.
San Francisco, Feb. 14. The funeral
of the late W. W. Stow took place from
hia residence at 11 o'clock this morning.
Bishop Nichols officiated. The remains
were taken to Oakland for interment.
