Threatened by Famine.
Dublin, Jan. 23. William O'Brien,
M. P., has written a letter to the Free
man's Journal, stating that a famine is
threatened in the west of Ireland. He
declares the situation there is already
more serious than in 1891,; when Chief
Seoretary Balfour expended 1,000.000
from the British treasury to "relieve the
sufferings of the people of that region.

at its annual meeting declared a semi
annual dividend of 5 per cent on its cap

six months. The report of the cashier
shows that this bank has returned in

While G. W. Boggs was crossing Ap
plegate creek one day last week, his
horse fell. His feet hanging in the stir
rups and the horse being on top, be was
