' It is evident Colonel Breckinridge is unaware how badly he has been hurt by the pending trial. If his judgment had been sound he would have compromised with the woman out of court, and on any terms. Spokane Review. The leader of the April Forum will be a candid, and impartial, though frank and barp, review of the first year ot. Mr. Cleveland's administration, and of dem ocratic control of the government. The writer is anonymous, but is so plain? epoken that the article will doubtless provoke widespread discussion and com .ment. '-. "Greshara has concluded a treaty with 'the Chinese minister . at Washington that is to upset the Chinese immigration policy which has been growing for the past fifteen years. The new state paper is before, the senate for ratification. If there is a man baore unfit for secretary of state than Gresham, he has not yet been named. Independent. The country does not expect the dem ocratic party to do impossibilities, and -in framing of an ideal tariff reform bill 'under existing conditions the country Febnary 12, 1894. Then why, in the name of thunder, not leave it alone,- and let business progress as prosperously as 'it did' at the old McKinley stand. .American Economist. 'ZXhe income tax is a blow aimed at the North ; reciprocity of agricultural pro ducts between the United States and Canada is a blow at the North, intended to ruin the market ; - lumber on the free list will principally affect the North ; free wool, with the single exception of Texas', is a blow at the North ; the hop industry of the North is struck by a re duction of duty.. .The Wilson bill is cunningly devised to make the North bear the expenses of running the gov ernment. Is not the ' country in the keeping of the same men who conspired to destrov the Union in 18G1? The present state law making taxes delinquent April 1st is a stupid one, and it is high time it was changed. Decem ber 1st would be. the best date, when money is always more plentiful. If a person ever has any money it is then The crops have been garnered and the payment for same has 'been received. All kinds of obligations generally are 'squared up by this date, if they ever will be. ' Of the early spring months the Adverse is true. These are borrowing months. ' The cash assets of nearly everyone have dwindled down to to nothing and money is tight. It 4s the worst time in the year for such a heavy draw as taxes. The next session of the legislature should amend this law. And in this connection they should at the same time provide that assessors be ap pointed by the county courts. This is too important a matter to be left to chance. There is no other county office .which requires such peculiar character . istics on the part of the. incumbent as county assessor. A good assessor is never popular he is too inquisitive, too prying. A convention may put Tip a biainy man and a popular, but he may make a very poor assessor. The county court, recognizing who would be most valuable for this duty, and wishing 'to . make the best administration possible. would make a "better choice than any convention. ' A Queenly Head Can never rest on a body frail from die . ease any more than the lovely lily can grow in tne sterile soil. . A Racking Cough Cured by Ayor's Cherry Pectoral. Mrs. P. D. Hall, 217 Genessee St., Lockport, N. Y., says : " Over thirty years ago,' I remember hearing my father describe the wonder ful curative effects' of AVer's Cherry Pectoral. During a recent attack of La Grippe, which . assumed the form of a catarrh, soreness of the lungs, accom panied by an aggravating cough, I used various remedies and prescriptions. While some of these medicines partially alleviated the coughing duriug the day, none of them afforded me any relief from that spasmodic action of the lungs which would seize me the moment I attempted . to lie down at night. . After ten or twelve such nights, I was Nearly in Despair, and had about decided to sit up all night in my easy chair, .and procure what sleep. I conld in that way. : It then oc curred to ' me that I had a bottle of Averts Cherry Pectoral. I took a Bpoonful of this preparation in a little water, and was able to lie down without coughing.- In a few moments, I fell ' asleep, and awoke in the morning greatly refreshed and feeling much; better. ' I took a teaspoonful of the Pec toral every night for a week, then grad ually decreased the dose, and in two - weeks my cough was cured." Ayer's Cherry Pectoral . Prepared by Dr. J. C.
