THE EVERLASTING "WHY."
It Is Anawi-rctl by 1111 Oltl nnil llxpcrl
rucod lCiifjIm-iT.
"It makes me mtitl." said the oltl en
gineer to a correspondent of the Car
and Locomotive llnildor, "to hear peo
ple ask why a man don't do so and so
ivhen hia engine strikes. It all cornea
like a stroke of lightning. When we
piled 'em up in the Whltesville cut and
killed eight, year before last, 1 was sit
ting in my window that night, looking
.ahead as careful as anyone could. We
Jiad started on the curve and she was
fjoing as fast as the wheels could turn,
forty minutes behind time, and the
deuce to pay if we didn't make it up by
morning. Jimmy Ilartsell was feeding
er ever minute.
"I thought I saw a glimmer of light
on the bank ahead. It was the Hash
from tho headlight around the other
lie ml of the curve. Between the time
I caught that Hash and when 1 saw the
headlight swing around the cut as big
as a tub it couldn't have been a hun
dredth part of a second. We were nose
to nose before I realized no. 1 don't
think I realized but I put on the air
-with one yank, yelled to Jimmy, and
fell out o the window. 1 was cut all
rip. The wreck was on lire and people
were hollerin' underneath. I laid
there feelin' of myself, expeetin' every
minute to find a soft place, but I was
all right, and three days after I went
to Jimm3''s funeral. After that I don't
tvant any man to tell me what you
ought to do."
I, a Grippe.
During the prevalence of the grippe
the past seasons it was a noticeable fact
that those who depended upon Dr.
King's IJew Discovery, not only had a
epeedy recovery, but escaped all of the
troublesome after effects of the malady.
'This remedy Eeems to have a peculiar
power in effecting rapid cures not only
in cases of la grippe, but in all diseases
of throat, chest and lungs, and lias cured
cases of asthma and hay fever of long
etandihg. Try it and be convinced. It
won't disappoint. Free trial bottles at
