i
Four hundred ehairpushers at the I
Chicago fair have struck acAttiat a re-!
duetion in pay. !
The Southern California railway has ,
postponed its payday from the loth to.
the i!lst of August , on account of scarcity
of funds.
Seven thousand of Chicago's unem
ployed held a mcclim; in Chicago Tues
day and adopted resolutions calling
upon congress to do away with the pres
ent evils in the iinancial world, and de
manding that the Haymarket monu
ment erected in the memory of the
policemen killed during the anarchist
riots of 1SS6 be torn down.
Political Economist Horace F. Cutter
proposes a f-chenie to end the monetary
stringency by buyiuj; British Columbia,
paying therefor in silver bars. "One
hundred millions of dollars, payable in
silver bars at say an average of I!9 cents
per ounce, would give England the op
portunity of converting the same into
coin, which might be made so as to cor
respond predselv in value to our own
dollar. By international agreement a
similar amount of $140,000,000 could be
coined by the United States, both giving
?2S0,O00,OOO of silver coins to be mter
y changeable between the people of both
countries ; thus taking an immense step
in the direction of the 'coin union.' "

"There's war alnong the natives at
Grande Ronde not exactly among the
natives but on the domain supplied
them by Uncle Samuel. There is in
the schools of the agency a white
"schoolmarm," who not long ago was
brought on from the east. On the res
ervation is a young brave, who would
be taken for a white man, though In
dian blood courses through his veins.
A deep friendship sprung up between
the school ma'am and the young brave,
and their friendship deepened into love.
They were to have been married last
week, the house was furnished into
which they would settle down into
happy domestic life. Rut "there's many
a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip." A
bright-eyed, Jrosy-cheeked maid of the
forest appears on the scene, and Friday,
with the brave who wa3 to have married
the white woman, went to Dallas, where
the nuptial knot was tied. In conse
quence the fcchoolmarm was interview

Mr. Thomas Ilatte, editor of the
Graphic, Texarkana, Arkansas, has
found what he believes to be the best
remedy in existence for the flux. His
experience is well worth remembering.
He says: "Last summer I had a very
geverc attack of flux. I tried ulmost
every known remedy, none giving relief.
Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diar
rhoea Eemedy was recommended to me.
I purchased a bottle and received almost
immediate relief. I continued to use
the medicine and was entirely cured.
3 take pleasure in recommending this
remedy to any person suffering with
such a disease, as in my opinion it is the
best medicine in existence." 23 and 50

It Is said that the new city directory
of Baltimore Indicates an increase of
80,000 in the population of the city
during' the iuKt year, due largely to
the growth of manufacturing interests
in the city and nuhurbs.
The success of Mrs. Annie M. Jleam,
of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, in the
treatment of diarrheal in her children
will undoubtedly be of interest to many
rootherfi. She saya: "I spent several
weeks in Johnstown, Ta., after the great
Hood, on account of my husband being
employed there. Wo had several chil
dren with us, two ol whom took the
diarrluea very badly. I got some of
Chamberlain'a Colic, Cholera, and
Diarrhica Remedy from Ilev. Mr. Chap
man. It cured both of them. I knew
of eevernl cases whoro it was equally
fiuccesaful. I think it cannot be excelled
and cheerfully recommend it." 25 and
