A llnrnro Superstition.
Tho pearl hunters of Hornco and ad
jacent islands have a peculiar super
stition. When they open shells in
heareh of pearls, they take every ninth
11 ml. whether it he large, or small, ami
put it into a hottle with a ileail man's
linger. They are kept and are known
as "seed pearls.'' or "breeding pearls,"
and the natives of the islands men
tioned tlrmly believe that they have
the powers of reprodueing their kind.
For every pearl put into the phial, two
grains of rice are thrown in for the
pearls to "feed" upon. Some of the
white gem hunters of ltorneo believe
in the superstition as lirmly as the na
tives do. It is said that nearly every
hut along the coast has its "dead lin
ger'' bottle with from nine to ten times
that number of "seed pearls," the de
caying digit and the rice carefully
stowed away among them.
Mr. Thomas llatte, editor of the
Graphic, Texarkana, Arkansas, has
found what he believes to be the beat
remedy in existence for the flux. His
experience is well worth remembering.
He says: "Last summer I had a very
eevere attack of flux. I tried almost
every known remedy, none giving relief.
Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diar-
rluea Keinedv was recommended to me. i
I purchased a bottle and received almost
immediate relief. I continued to use
the medicine and was entirely cured.
I take pleasure in recommending this
remedy to any person suffering with
such a disease, as in my opinion it is the
best medicine in existence." 25 and oO

The success of Mrs. Annie M. Beam,
of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, in the
treatment of diarrluwi in her children
will undoubtedly be of interest to many
mothers. She says: "spent several
weeks in Johnstown, la., after the great
Hood, on account of my husband being
employed there. We had several chil
dren with us. two ot whom took the
diarrluen very badly. I got some of
Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera, and
Diarrhoea Itcinedv from Rev. Mr. Chap
.man. It cured both of theui. I knew
. of several cases where it was equally
successful. I think it cannot be excelled
and cheerfully recommend it." 25 and
