CARNEGIE'S PltEDlCTION.
Believes tile English-Speaking World
Will Unite and Be Supreme.
Andrew Carnegie predicts, in the June
number of the North American Review,
issued today, the union of all the parts
of the English-speaking world, and sets
forth the advantage? that would follow
an Anglo-American combination.
Mr. Carnegie argues that all influences
are now working toward a reunion of
the separated parts of the English
speaking world. The Americans, Mr.
Carnegie claims, differ less from the
Briton than the Irishman, Scotchman,
or Welshman. The marvelous develop
ment in recenttimes of the facilities of
travel, be says, tends to bring into com
paratively close proximity countries
that are separated only by water. The
delegate leaving Liverpool or South
ampton for a conference at Washington
would reach that city in just about the
same time as the delegate from the Pa
cific coast, or as long as it took mem
bers from the north of Scotland to reach
London at the time England and Scot
land were united.
The factor which Mr. Carnegie deems
most important in rendering political re
union possible and in his judgment in
evitable is the telegraph, which brings
the most widely-separated centers of
activity into almost instantaneous com
munication. Without this agency, it
might be doubtful whether one central
authority could act for all the scattered
parts, but with it, time is no longer to
be taken into account, and distance
means but little when all can in
stantly hear of everything that hap
pens. Canada, he says, would undoubtedly
favor reunion. The United States
would be favorably disposed toward it.
"Let men say what they will," says
Mr. Carnegie, "I say that, as surely as
the sun in the heavens once shonn upon
Britain and America united, so surely
is it one morning to rise, shine upon
and greet again 'The Reunited States.' "
The promptness and certainty of its
cures have made Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy famous. It is intended especi
ally for coughs, colds, croup and whoop
ing coughs, and is the most effectual
remedy known lor these diseases. Mr.
C. B. Main of Union City, Pa., says:
"I have a great sale on Chamberlain's
Cough Remedy. I warrant every bottle
and have never beard of one failing to
give entire satisfaction. ' ' 50 cent bottles
