Next Year.
Come Here
Monmouth, 111., May 31. The United
Presbyterian aseembly decided this
morning to meet next year at Albany,
Or., and the general committee on home
missions at Portland, Or. A resolution
was passed reaffirming the former
declarations against membership in
secret oath-bound societies. A com
mittee was ordered appointed to act
with a similar committee from the Hol
land Christian Reformed church to pre
pare a basis of union. The appeal of
Rev. David Morrow from the synod of
California was referred back to the
synod. The appeal of Rev. J. O. Arm
strong, of the same synod, was not reg
ular, and no action was taken.
The BdsIjd Bank Robbery Evidence
From the District When They
Were Captured.
Fossil, Oregon, Dec. 2, 1892.
O. W. R. Mfg. Co., Portland. Oregon:
Dear Sir Your Congo oil is the boss
medicine. I was recently kicked by a
horse on the leg, and was hobbling
around on crutches. I was induced to
try a bottle of Congo oil, and after ap
plying freely for one day I .threw away
my crutches. It works like lightning.
Yours Truly, J. A. Harrison, City
Marshal, Fossil, Oregon.
It's sometimes said patent medicines
are for the ignorant. The doctors foster
this idea. "The people," we're told,
"are mostly ignorant when it comes to
medical science." Suppose they are!
What a sick man needs is not knowl
edge, but a cure, and the medicine that
cures is the medicine for the sick. Dr.
Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery cures
the "do believes" and the "don't be
lieves." There's no hesitance about it,
no "if" nor "possibly." It says "I
can cure you. only do as I direct."
Perhaps it fails occasionally. The mak
ers hear of it when it does, because they
never keep the money when the medi
cine fails to do good. Suppose the doc
tors went on that principle. (We beg
the doctors' pardon. It wouldn't do!)
John Rea, the only survivor of the
original Christy's minstrels, celebrated
the seventieth anniversary of his birth
at his home in North Pater son, N. J.,
recently. .
There is nothing I have ever used for
muscular rheumatism that gives me as
much relief as Chamberlain's Pain Balm
does. I have been using it for about
two years four bottles in all as occa
sion required, and always keep a bottle
of it in my home. I believe I know a
good thing when I get hold of it, and
Pain Balm is the best liniment I have
ever met with. W. B. Denny, dairy
man, New Lexington, Ohio. 50 cent
bottles for sale by Blakeley & Houghton.
Can Tell the Speed.
Railroad employes have a way of tell
ing the speed of a railway train, which
they claim is almost infallible. Every
time the train passes over a joint in the
track there is a distinct click. They
count the number of these clicks in 20
seconds, which gives them the number
of miles the train is going per hour, as
the length of the rail is uniform.

i Copenhagen, May 80. A meeting, at
tended by 135 delegates, at Aardhuus,
in Denmark, has promulgated a mani
festo protesting against German rule in
Schleswig. The meeting was attended
by great enthusiasm and showed that
the feeling of attachment to Denmark is
still very strong in the province which
was taken from her by Prussia.
