A letter from Cairo says that Egypt
has decided to make a gift of the mum
mies found in upper Egypt, and now in
the Ghiseh museum, to the different
museums in T-iondon, Paris, Berlin,
Vienna, St. Petersburg' and Rome. The
mummies are to be divided into six lots
and drawn for by lots. This is the first
time that mummies have been used as
prizes in a lottery, and it is difficult to
see how puritanic England can recon
cile itself to such a gambling deal as
this, although, no doubt, sooner than
lose the grab, she will find some means
to "chase the devil around the stump."
