Cost of a. Billiard Ball.
The cost of a billiard ball is curiously
estimated by a Cairo author. In the
judgement of honest American travelers
the tusks of dazzling whiteness are an
swerable for the following: L60 deaths
that must be counted as murder or man
slaughter; 30 deaths incurred during
the journey from the interior to the
coast; 10 "deaths by law," and 10 acci
dents during the elephant hunt. "Add
to this 15 thefts, any amount of cheat
ing, drunkenness and acts of brutality
and cruelty." A medium-6ized, fault
less tusk yields two or occasionally
three billiard balls, and every ball
means, it is stated, at least one mur
der or one great crime.
Tea Culture in Florida.
Mrs. Sumner, of Florida, raises her
own tea, and treats her guests to cups
of the home-grown . article, which is
pronounced much superior to the tea of
commerce. It is said that the finest
varieties will not stand a sea voyage,
and never get further than Russia,
while Mrs. Sumner's plants furnish it
for her cutting at a fraction of the price
set for the eastern product, $15 a pound.
So rapid is the growth of the bushes
here that they are cut every four years,
while in China this is done only once in
seven years.

Thomas McKinney of Spokane forged
a note for $29.10 and sold it to John
Hargrove for $20. The forgery was de
tected, and a policeman sent out to ar
rest McKinney, who had meantime hit
the faro table and run hts $20 up to $200.
McKinney got wind of the policeman's
quest, dodged him, bought back the
check for its face value and could not be
prosecuted. Fortune frequently saves
men from the penitentiary.

That Dr. Sage's Catarrh Remedy cures
the worst cases of chronic catarrh in the
head, catarrhal headache, and "cold in
the head." In perfect faith, its makers,
the World's Dispensary Medical Asso
ciation of Buffalo, N. Y., offers to pay
$500 to any one suffering from chronic
catarrh in the head whom they cannot
cure.
Now if the conditions were reversed
they asked you to pay $500 for a positive
you might hesitate. Here are reputable
men, with years of honorable dealing;
thousands of dollars and a great
name back of them, and they say
"We can cure you because we've cured
thousands of others like you if we can't
we will pay you $500 for the knowledge
that there's one whom we can't cure."
They believe in themselves. Isn't it
worth a trial? Isn't any trial prefera
ble to catarrh?
An Ants Brain.
The creature which Solomon advised
the sluggard to consult in regard to a
bit of information concerning the art
of "hustling" has a brain larger in pro
portion to the size of its body than any
other known being. Writers on that
branch of entomology declare that ants
are not only endowed with a high
quality of instinct, but that they dis
play reasoning ability and good judg
ment, as well as powers of reflection
and calculation.
My wife was confined to her oed for
over two months with a very severe at
tack ot rheumatism. We could get
nothing that would afford htr any re
lief, and as a last resort gave Chamber
lain's Pain Balm a trial. To our great
surprise she began to improve after the
first application, and by using it regu
larly she was soon able to get up and
attend to her house work. E. H. John

J. B. Wilson, 371 Clay St., Sharps
burg, Pa., says he will not be without
Dr. King's New Discovery for consump
tion, coughs and colds, that it cured his
wife who was threatened with pneumonia
after an attack of "la grippe," when
various other remedies and several phy
sicians had done her no good. Robert
Barber, of Cook a port, Pa., claims Dr.
King's New Discovery has done him
more good than anything he ever used
for lung trouble. Nothing like it. Try
it. Free trial bottles at Snipes & Kin
ersly 's. Large bottles, 50c. and $1.00.
