A Philosophical Family.
Amelia has pimples, and sores in the head,
From humors internal her nose has grown red;
She's a boil on her neck that's as big as a bell,
But in other respects she is doing quite well.
. ."" 1 '
And pa has dyspepsia, malaria and gout.
His liands with salt-rheum are all broken out;
He is prone to" rheumatics that makes his legs
h swell, i
But in other respects be is doing quite well.
And ma has night-sweats and a troublesome
cough,
Thatall of our doctors can't see n to drive off;
-She wakes every night and coughs quite a spell,
But in other, respects she is doing quite well.
There" IB ''BOtlling like philosorihyr't-
iielp one bear the ilia of life, but in the
.case of this family what ia most needed
is a good supply of Dr. Pierce's olden
Medical Discovery. It would cleanse
Amelia's bad blood, cure pa's ailments','
and check, ma's cough. The "Golden
Medical Discovery," by ita action on the
liver, cleanses the system of impurities.
It cures humors, ulcers, boils, scrofula,
salt-rheum, erysipelas, and all kinds of
sores and swellings. The only guaran
teed piooa-pnriner. -
A Smart Lad.
The man who puts no heart in his work
is doomed to failure. He may walk the
commonplace lines of a clerk or book
keeper, but he will never win the con
fidence or gain the affection of his em
ployers. A western preacher gives the
following humorous account of a test to
which he submitted one of hia bbys : "I
said the other day :' Wife, that boy has
"reached a period when we ought to find
oat what he is going to do,' and so we
got np an original experiment. We put
him in the parlor with a Bible, an apple
and one dollar, and I said:' Wife, we will
go and leave him. If, when we get back
he ia poring over that Bible he will fol
low my profession and we will make a
minister out of him. If he is examining
that apple we will make a farmer oat of
him. If he has got that dollar in his
pocket, we will make a lawyer or a bank
er out of him.' When we came back that
hoy was sitting on the Bible, eating the
apple out of one hand and holding the
dollar tight in the other, and I said,
"Wife that boy is a hog: we will make
a politician out of him.' "
Specimen Cases.
S. H. Clifford, New Cassel, Wis., was
troubled with neuralgia and rheuma
tism, his stomach was. disordered, his
liver was affected to an alarming de
gree, appetite tell away, and he was
terribly reduced in flesh and strength.
Three bottles of Electric Bitters cured
him. Edwd Shepherd, Harriaburg, HI
had a running sore on hia leg of eight
years' standing. Used three bottles of
Electric Bitters and seven boxes of
Bucklen'a Arnica Salve, and hia leg is
sound and well. John Speaker, Cataw
ba, O., had five large fever sores on his
leg, doctors said he was incurable. One
bottle Electric Bittera and one box
Bucklen'a Arnica Salve cured him en
tirely. Sold at Snipes & Kinerely's
urug store.
The steam schooner Alice Blanchard,
which became disabled off Cape Foul-
weather and finally drifted into Yaquina
bay on the fifth mat. and went high and
dry on the sand spit, was successfully
pulled off by the Oregon Pacific Rail
road Company's tug Resolute.

My wife was confined to her oed for
over two months with a very severe at
tack ot rheumatism. We could get
nothing that would afford htx any re
lief, and as a last resort gave Chamber
lain's Pain Balm a trial. To our great
surprise she began to improve after the
first application, and by using it regu
larly she was soon able to get up and
attend to her house work. E. H. John
