A Bangor man said there was no so prano at his church on a recent Sunday. When an explanation was asked the said that "Saturday night the soprano had a dream, in which an angel appeared and told her that the Lord wanted her to sing anthem No. 56 Sunday. "She got mad and said she wouldn't be bossed by anybody, and so she staid away from church.' Bangor Commer cial. Worth Sixty Times Its Weight In Gold. There is in existence a substance other than a jewel of the purest water which is worth, no less than sixty times its weight in pure gold. In the cabinet of chemical elements which the late Prince Lucien Bonaparte bequeathed to the English nation . there is a substance called germanium, which is reported to be of this fabulous value. London Tit- Bits. ' . The strongest recommendation that any article can have is the endorsement of the mothers of the town.' When the mothers recommend it you may know that that article has more than ordinary merit. Here is what the Centerville, South Dakota, Citizen says editorially of an article sold in their town : "From personal experience we can say that Chamberlain's Cough Remedy has broken up bad colds for our children. We are acquainted with many mothers in Centerville who would not be without it in the house for a good many times its cost, and are recommending it every day." 50 cent bottles for sale by Blake ley & Houghton, druggists. A Good Lang ICxercijie. Hold head up, shoulders back and chest out; inflate the lungs slowly through the nose until they are brimfni; hold until you have counted ten, with out opening yonr lips; exhale quickly till your lungs are as nearly empty of the bad air as it is possible to get them. Repeat same exercise, trying to hold the lungs full while counting twenty. Try it again and see if .you can hold your breath half a minute. Finish with three or four deep, long drawn inspirations. Nature. Tlie Wrong Prescription. A Connecticut woman sent her little son to the drug store for paregoric and licorice, and the youngster somewhat startled the clerk by requesting a fifteen cent pair ot garters and a necklace. Pharmaceutical Era. A Childless Home Smith and his wife have every luxury that money can buy, but there is one thing lacking to their happiness. Both are fond of children, but no little voices prattle, no little feet patter in their beautiful home. "I would give ten years of my life if I could have one healthy, living child of my own," Smith often says to himself. No woman can be the mother of healthy offspring un less she is herself in good health. If she suffers from female weakness, general debility, bearing-down pains, and functional derangements, her pbysicial -condition is such that she cannot hope to have healthy children. Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription is a sovereign and guaranteed remedy for all these ail ments. See guarantee printed on bottle wrapper. Yellow Flowers Bring 111 Lack. . Actors have a queer superstition about yellow flowers, and will not wear them. While at Dr. Todd's booth at the fair grounds Miss Marie Greenwood saw some yellow flowers, and after admiring them asked for them. Mr. Ouibertson, her leading man, was present and begged her not to take them, saying they would surely bring her ill luck. A laugh was indulged in at his expense and' she took the yellow flowers. In an hour the opera house was in ashes, and Miss Green wood's ill luck had cost her $7,500. The flowers got in their work. Owensboro (Ky.) Register. Three days is a very short time in which to cure a bad case of rheumatism ; but it can be done, if the proper treat ment is adopted, as will be seen by the following from James Lambert, of New Brunswick, Ills. : "I was badly afflicted with rheumatism in the hips and legs, when I bought a bottle of Chamberlain's Pain Balm. It cured me in three days. I am all right today ; and would insist on every one who is afflicted with that terrible disease to use Chamberlain's Pain Balm and get well at once." 50 cent bottles for sale by Blakeley & Houghton, druggists. Soon after Fitz-Greene Halleck had. published bis stirring "Marco Bozzaris," be repeated the poem to a lady, an intir mate friend of his. She expressed, great admiration of the beautiful lines, but when he was in full enjoyment of what be considered her perfect appreciation she surprised him by the innocent query : "Wbo was Marco Bozzaris?" "Well," said Mr. Halleck, despondent ly, "what's the use of becoming martyrs for liberty or of poeta celebrating heroes if ladies won't even inform themselves about the events of the day?" The remembrance of another incident connected with the poem never failed to elicit a groan from its author. At a certain dinner party at which be was present, it was expected that each man should sing a song or make a speech. Among the guests was a Dutch. Jew, whose English was execrable, and be bad been previously persuaded by a joker to commit the whole of Marco Bozzaris to memory that he might recite it for the gratification of the poet and the poet's friends. - The day came and the Dutchman was called upon to speak. "Shentlemans," said he rising, "I can neither make de speech nor sing desong, but I vill deliver von grand poem." This he proceeded relentlessly to do, and Halleck, when he heard his harmo nious measures delivered in a mixture of English and Dntch, was divided be tween the temptation to laugh and cry. Youth's Companion. L.a!ies Capture at 'Possum. Three ladies of Rockingham county, Va., on their way home from church, treed a 'possum. One of them ascended the tree and shook the animal to the ground, and the other two, who -were married, caught him. One of the latter, on reaching home, let the animal run loose in her husband's room, and he was nearly scared to death on finding him there when ho awoke. Spirit of the Valley. . . Joseph V. Dory, of Warsaw, 111., was troubled with rheumatism and tried a number of different remedies, but says none of them seemed to do him any good; but finally be got bold of one that speedily cured him. He was much pleased with it, and ielt sure that others similarly afflicted would like to know what the remedy was that cured him. He states for the benefit of the public that it is called Chamberlain's Pain Balm. For sale by Blakeley & Hough ton, Druggists.- ' - Subscribe for The Daily Chronicle. C, P.
