FOSTER'S FIG URES GREAT REDUCTION To run a big machine like the 'United States government is :i tremendnne Vhp iness, and the monetary" considerations involved, as shown by Secretary Foster's report, are something iinmnee. For the present fiscal year the revenues are estimated as follows: Customs .tHW,(Ho,ooo Internal revenue ltw,(HX),W'0 Miscellaneous, aujUHMMm Postal service . xii.:Ui;,:Vit Total v. :,ji6.:t.T0 The expenditures are as follows: Civil establishment JHiK.0oo.0OO Military establishment -I'UJUO.mKl Naval establishment :!1.(XH),C01 Ii dian service .(io,O00 Pensions .... l.vs.ooo.i im! Interest on public debt ai.nno.ni Postal service .s(i,:i!ii.:i"i Total fUl,:K5,3. , This' ltjaves an estimated surplus for the year of $2,0l).000. The available cash balance iu the treasury at the end of the fiscal year was $120,992,378. The revenues for the fi.scal year 1894 re es timated at $-M0,121,365. Theappropria tions required are $457,261,33o, exclusive of the sinking fund, orestimated surplus of 328,o00.0:tt), which with the cash bal ance: above the gold reserve would make the available balance $5352,407, and deducting accruing obligations would leave $48,852,407. Chargeable against this are unspent river and harbor and ordinance, appropriations of $44,000,000 and no account taken of the sinking fund of the requirements amounting to $48,600,000 beyond the redemption es timated at $5,000,000. Congress has adjourned over to Mon day. The famous Garreghan case is Btjll pending. A vote may be taken on the anti-option bill Monday. '. A, bill making it unlawful for any common carrier to insert in a bill of landing a clause to release it from liability or loss in transportation of merchandise com mitted to its care, passed the house. Representative Anthony, of Texas, in troduced a bill repealing the act of June 17th, 1890, granting pensions to soldiers, Bailors, widows, minor children and de pendent parents of soldiers "and suilois. The bill also provides that all pensions granted under the act shall be discontinued. Democratic leaders from all parts of Kansas are attending a meeting of the democratic central committee in Topeka today to decide the senatorial question. There are numerous candidates in the field. With the aid of one democrat the populists can elect a senator, and Sena tor O'Brien, though a straight demrat, maks it impossible to elect any demo crat other than a fusionist and populist. The caucus is to decide who that fusion ist will be. We' hear occasionally that there are 'democrats still fighting Cleveland, but it is a little bard to understand what they are doing it for. Even Grover's .gall is not large enongh to make him think there is anything for him after his term as president expires. He can hardly have the ambition to run the political scale backward and round out his' life by being once more- sheriff of Erie county. IN THE PRICE. OF Gkj Stoics - stock of CpBK . "While the alleged diamond discovery in Idaho has been a great puzzle, theie does not seem to be good ground for doubting that such discovery has been made. Mr. Vandorn admits that there has been a purpose to prevent the pub lic from, hearing just now where the fields are. He said this evening that it would be two wetsks lefore the secret could be disclosed. In May next Frank Fordyce, a young stock baron of Idaho, will attempt to drive from the center of that state to Oallala, Neb., 4o,000 sheep, a distance of 1.000 miles. The trip will occupy six months. The sheep will have to cross the Roekv mountains in the wildest part, and will have to ford scores of 6treams. President Lilly of the Pullman agri cultural college has been discharged without trial seemingly, and while un able to be present and answer the charge that had been filed. It looks as though the regent? had token an undue'advan- tage of their opportunity. It is learned from an authoritative source that the, Mexican government will present a petition to the United States asking that the Apache Indians whojiow occupy a. reservation in Ari zona near the Mexican boundary le removed to a greater distance. In conseauence of official news that cholera has broken out. again in Ham 'burg, the Colombian government has closed its ports- against all vessels hav ing left Hamburg after today. Blainee' condition is much less favor able. All reports indicate that Death will soon visit the Blaine mansion.' DON'T f AIL TO SEE THE1H. NEW ..
