OREGON'S SHOWING-
AT CHICAGO
NEXT YEAR
Remains in doubt, but there
is no question about the
Portland Industrial Ex
position which opens Sep
tember 21st and closes October
22d, being the best Exposition
ever held on the Pacific Coast.
So far as Oregon is concerned
it will be the forerunner of the
Exposition at Chicago in
1893. The principal attrac
tions are the magnificent
A merican Band of Providence,

To these are added a larger
number of exhibits than ever
before; including magnifi

the combined Thomson-Houston
and Edison Companies.
All manufactures in full oper
ation. Government models
of Battle Cuiips. The wonder

marvelous "Little World," the
product of a mechanical

About tbe time Blind Tom started out i
to show bis wonderful gifts Macon de
veloped a musical prodigy, though in a
different line. In tbe alley back of Cads,
Neel & Co.'s store was a blacksmith
shop owned by & man named English, a
quiet sort of a man and very popular in
his business. One day he bought his
three-year-old boy a drum it might
have been a gift from Santa Claus and
great was his astonishment 'when th6
baby rattled away on the drum with the
skill of a professional.
Of course such a precocious boy soon
became known to Macon, and a mention
of it fell under the eye of P. T. Barnum,
who was then in his prime. The great
showman sent an agent to Macon as
fast as steam and coach could bring
him. After a good deal of parleying
the agent succeeded in securing young
English, it being understood that his
mother would accompany him. Then
the New York papers were filled with
mention of "The Infant Drummer," and
for years he was one of the features of
Barnum's museum. Macon (Qa.) Tel
egraph. There are a good many things in the
animal kingdom which we do not yet
know, or which we have only just dis
covered. A good liniment for inflammation,
rheumatism, swellings, etc., is olive oil
well saturated with camphor.
