? About the time Blind Tom started out !
to show his vronderful gifts Macon de
veloped Sk. musical: prodigy.. though in a
different line.: In the alley back of Eads,
Neel" & Co.'s store--was' a blacksmith
shop owned by a man named English,. a
quiet sort of a man and very popular in
his business. One day he bought his
three-year-old boy a dram it might
have been a gift from Santa Clans and
crreat was his astouishment when the
baby rattled away ou the drum with the
skill of a professional,
s Ot course such a precocious boy soon
became" known to Macon, and a mention
of it fell under the eye of P. T. Barnum,
who was then in his prime. The great
showman sent an agent to Macon aa
fast ; as steam and coach could bring
him.. After a good deal of parleying
the agent succeeded in securing young
English, it being understood that hia
mother would accompany him. Then
the' New York papers were filled with
mention of "The Infant Drummer," and
for years he was one of the features of
Bamum'a museum. Macon (Ga.) Tel
