;!...A.cnrioua stato of affairs prevails in
Nanticote, Pa,, a mining town of 11,000
inhabitants. Two-thirds of the popula
tion 'are foreigners, mostly Huns, Poles
and Italians. Three months ago the
free mail delivery system was ' inaugu
rated in the town. It has proven a fail
ure. ', A great deal of foreign' mail mat
ter is received at the postoffice daily, but
no atreots or numbers are given. The
letter carriers simply take a bag of mail
and march through the town blowing a
whistle.
The people turn out and the carrier
allows them to examine the letters. In
this way ho delivers to owners. ' The
people are honest enough, and will not
take a letter that does not belong to
them.' The postoffice authorities at Wash
ington, however, do not like the mode
of delivery, and it ifi likely that the free
delivery system will be discontinued.

Aneleraf Greek Coins,' '
To the Lydians the innovation of
coining gold and -River is attributed, and
the year 883 B C. is fixed as the em of
the invention. Soirw 800- years after
thisj it may be iiote&i3rassaa'wv& king
of Lydia. The ooioa of that period were
not very elegant. ; Axaong the Greeks
banking was carried on to a considerable
extent. Bonier speaks of brass' money
among them in 1184 B, X, but it was
weights, not coins. -' But tbe art of coin
ing was soon 'acquired by the" tireeks.
Tbe earliest coins tbey made were some
what crude. "
The original method of making a coin
was by placing a given weight of metal,
after it had been softened, over a die
upon which a national symbol or emblem
was engraved, and then pounding it
with a hammer on the. die until a good
impression was obtained. They were
rude and battered and -showed a die im-
preasion on one side only, tbe other bear
ing uae ruuu ixusi sa vi iub uuuuaiva..
The earliest Greek coins were of silver,
whereas thoeo of Lydia were of gold or
electron gold and -Bilver. They, were
of a sacred character, and the old in
scriptions were-succeeded by representa
tions of the deities. Brooklyn tsagie. -
pimples.
The old idea of 40 years ago was that facial
eruptions were due to a "blood humor," for
which they gave potash. Thus all the old Saram
psvrilUu contain potash, a most objectionable and
drastic mineral, that Instead of decreasing,
actually creates more eruptions. Ton have no
ticed this when taking other SarsaparQlas than
Joy's. It is however now known that the stom
ach, the blood creating power, is the seat of all
vitiating or cleansing operations. ' A stomach
clogged by indigestion or constipation, vitiates
the blood, result pimples. . A clean stomach and
healthful digestion purifies it end they disappear.
Thus Joy's Vegetable Sarsaparilla is compounded
after the modern idea to regulate the bowels and
stimulate the digestion. The effect is immediate
and most satisfactory- A short testimonial to
contrast the action of tbe potash Sarsanarlllaa
and Joy's modern vegetable preparation. Mrs.
C. 1. 8trt, of 400 Hayes St. 9. F., writes:
have for years had indig-estiou, I tried a popular
Sarsaparilla but it actually fonsed more pimples
to break out on my face. Hearing that Joy's was
a later preparation and acted differently, T tried
it and tbe pimples Immediately disappeared."
