That wagon road was built with the people's money, pro cured from the proceeds of the sales of swamp lands. After it was built the state turned it over to the counties through which it runs. . AVhen ; the Union Pacific railway was built the road was jn many ; places . ''turned over into the river." In other words the railway construction gangs did about as they pleased with it mostly to ruin it ; prom ising the authorities to make the road good again. They have never dor.e so.
