Indirect death toll of the Astoria fire reached three wbeii It wasi discovered this afternoon that Jack Com lei sen, a sailor, was drowned In the Columbia river early Friday morning whlte'trying to make his stray ashore. , . ... - . Cornielsen was working aboard the ' JPort of Portland tug Oneonta, which had moored for the night alongside the ; O-W dock. When the alarm was . scunded. he with other sailors dressed hurriedly and made for shore. Corniel sen misjudged his distance In Jumping from the- tug to the dock and fell Into ths river. . His - body was recovered about two hours later by the tug . crew. Efforts to revive him were un successful. In the . excitement of the fire, no report of the drowning t was mad until today. Cornielsen is. re ported to have a sister, Mrs. Sorenson, residing on 33th street, here. Following the discovery of the drowning the coroner commented" on the peculiarity of the deaths In this fire. None was the customary fire deaths, he said. The other two who died were Norris Staples and J. B. Fmith.
