THE OREGON DAILY JOURNAL; PORTLAND, OREGON, 14 SATURDAY, DECEMBER 0, 1922. ... -. ..it- ;. $1,000,000 by PORTLAND LEADING IN SCHOOL QUEST -"One Million Oo Liars by Saturday !Trg-ht is the slogan of Willamette university forward movement cam paign workers, enlisted in the drive to obtain. $1,250,000 endowment for the old -school at Salem. It is confidently ex Reeled that it will be shown that this sum has been pledged when the min ister and laymen meet in daily luncheon session at the Seward hotel Monday. More than $900,000 has been subscribed, and Bishop Shepard and his co-workers are optimistic. Dally noon meetings at the Seward hotel have brought the workers in the city-wide campaign here into close con tact and has kept them Informed of the progress of the drive day by day. . During the week Portland and Salem teams entered into a contest to see which city can first obtain pledges for $300,000. Both are "at it" now and much interest has been aroused in the rivalry that has developed. The race is not so one-sided as mignt at first be thought, for the Capital City campaign ers have gone far over the $100,000 mark already. Portland has gone be yond the $165,000 point. - The campaign is to obtain the en dowment so that the university may expand its scope and increase its effi ciency, so as to accommodate more pupils and be rated as the equal qf any school in the United States from every standpoint.
