COTTOIf MARKET; OFFERINGS LIGHT New-York. Nov. 25. The steadier tone which developed in the cotton market aa soon as the December notices were stopped Fri day was in evidence again today. The' burins was not active or general today. but the well liquidated position of the market again was reflected in comparatively light or-, tarings. The tendency toward a revival of bullish sentiment was encouraged by the larger spot rales officially reported in the Hots them marketa Friday and rather more favorable comment from the domestic goods markets. The aignifioeut thing about the stopping or the notices Friday, of oourae. was the fact that they were taken at amounts, representing leas than carrying charges, as compared with later months. This was considered an indica tion of firmness in the Tot position and recent reports of better spot demand were confirmed to Kmi extent by the increased volume of busine officially reported in the Southern markets late Friday. . For the past fortnight or so. sales in the Southern, markets have been averaging between eight sad tea thousand bale a day. Friday they were aver 16.000. and it Is reported that some of the Southern mills were reentering the marketa all these features probably were reflected in the opening advance of 11 to 27 points in futures today. Buying was not active -or general, but it was sufficient to send prices up to 25.78 for January and 25.85 for March contracts or about 23 to 29 points net higher. Later fluctuations were somewhat irregular as a result of realizing sales for over the week end, but the undertone of the market was generally steady and some traders thought they saw indications of gradually returning con fidenee, although checked by unfavorable trade reports from Lajicaaliire. PUNS OUTLIHEO ni nnrniT FOR NEXT YEAR To outline plana for next year's work the Portland Association " of Retail Credit Hen Friday eveningr held the first of a series of monthly dinners at the Multnomah hotel and made a spe cial bid for a large attendance. - C. I Mac Donald, president, an nounced plans to combine the work of the association and the. credit re portingr bureau, to the end that mem bers of the association would .supply ledger experience to the reporting: bu reau, . from whose files it could bo ob tained by interested members. Plans for the forthcoming' conference of the Retail Credit Men to bo -held in Port land in May- were also touched upon. W. D. B. Dodson. the general man ager of the Chamber of Commerce, principal speaker of the evening; told the association that while he had heard many reasons ascribed for Oregon's apparent failure to go ahead aa rapid ly as the other states of the Pacific Coast, he believed that the real rea son was the lack of good salesmanship on the part' of the state. "Oregon is more favorably situated in regard to natural resources than any other state on the Pacific Coast," he said, "but we do not seem to be able to sell the state and its resources to the rest of the world. There must be greater cooperation between the farm er and the distributor, and in order to secure this cfoperation we must de velop the idea of cooperative market ing associations. Even during the pe riod of depression which has existed for the last two years, the farmers of California, by reason of their cooper ative marketing associations, have been able to market their products at a fair price to the consumer and at a profit to themselves, and Oregon must take pattern from her southern neighbor if she expects to reap the prosperity that is rightfully hers." costthstjaxce is asked M.edford, Nov. 25. Attorneys for de fendants in the night riding indictment cases here filed before Judge Calkins a motion for continuance until the March term of circuit court. Monday was set. for hearing arguments.
