USE OF TRUCK TO BE TflLO BY RIM KBYDEALERS Automobile Dealers' Association , of Portland Now Shoolirtg! Staehli, secretary of the Automobile Dealers' Association of' Portland, -Inc., said last week. , The film is new being made under the auspices of the dealers' associa tion, Staehli said,H. and will ibe ready for exhibition, within two lor three weeks. When - completed it will be shown, before the various chambers -of commerce and other civic organisations Interested In traffic and trans porta tion. The film: Is being "shot" v by Jess GUL. "Our aim m this Is to show -that truck, transportation for short hauls is especially - adapted to conditions in Oregon." Staehli said. "The pictures will show the various steps In truck work and will demonstrate that by; more extensive use. of trucks that traf fic will o$ be unnecessarily congested or highways In any vray endangerea. 'The feature of the picture will -be the Interchange of produce between towns andi different sections of the country Benefits derived from such transportataon will be shown. Staehli Is of the opinion that truck transportation la Oregon is not a sec ondary unit but both-Independent and Important to the development of the "It fills a need that ts not filled In any other way," he said. -"It is essen tial to the small, farmer and manu facturer to get his produce to the mar ket in the shortest possible time and at the least expense. In this the track cannot compete but as a unit fcr short hauls it is Ideal, ea- pedally -for districts having no rail communication, -- However,. ; on short hauls, the truck can compete with ran tinea and handle certain produce more satisfactorily This has been proven. Sheer t carelessness and lack-of con alteration, tor other drivers Is the chief cause of traf fid problems and accidents Frank S. Grant, city attorney, avers. Grant believes that by every motorist practicing the Golden Rule that the major traffic problems would be solved. Too many machines, he said, are oper ated by people who do not " stop - to thurk of the dangers they court. . One , of the most dangerous prac tices -I have observed recently i is the operation after dark without lights,' he said, "One evening X saw more than 20 automobiles tearing along at a good clip without a bit of Ught. It was a -dark night, too aad it was all I could do to see them as they passed. "Now that daylight fades early and the rain Is conducive to - a greater darknesa.than la. the summer time it would be well for every motorist to be sure that bis lights are working well. Several machines ; that X : stopped . did not know the lights were not on. Some said they could not be turned on. 'This is typical of some of the fools that ret behind a wheel of a nigh. powered vehicle and endanger : the lives of everyone on the streets and highways. Jail sentences are, too good for them bub unfortunately- our- laws are based on certain ; amount of civilisation, .which means considers tion for the .other fellow. dangeroas to pedestrians, v-ho ct-r-not bei 'seen until Vun Jaown, but to 'the pperator of the car himself..
