'TH babe in arms the little tot tugging at apron stringsI-the chilo!' ready for schoolwho will advise taking these away from a mother's direct control? And yet the upholders of the School Monopoly Bill (called on the ballot "The Compulsory Education Bfll") would take away the mother's right to say, how her child should be educate. They would deny her the right of direct parental control by .taking away her choice of a school for her own child. America Has Always Allowed Its Mothers to Direct The Education of Their Children Mothers who have sent their children to public schools have not been under compulsion to do this. They have exercised their free choice in sending them there. ! ' Jr ! i : ; Most mothers have, of their own free will, chosen to send their children to the public schools. A comparatively small number has, for legitimate and proper reasons, chosen to send their children to other schools. For one-hundred and fifty years nobody has ques tioned their right It has always been held sacred. The Child That Needs Special Attention Perhaps your child needs special attention, either because of a set-back or because it has special talents. Perhaps you feel that it should be educated in a religious school. You would not want to be denied the right to give your child this special attention, or to carry out another ideal in education. Nor would you want anybody else denied this right 315 X NO Mothers of Oregon Look to Your Qod'Qiven Rights Yours is the child. Yours is the right and the duty- to have a direct hand in guiding and educating it This Would be denied you if the proposed school bill is adopted, which" converts a. free public school into a compulsory public school. If you will look up the present law you will find that we already have compulsory educa tion, and that all children must be taught American ideals and in the English language. What the bill really proposes is that the state shall destroy every mother's right directly to determine the education of her children.
