The price of em has been advanced
to 54c a doaen on the rrablic market,
a rise of 4c ovr recent Quotations. Tbe
change in the price ia .Somewhat over
due Fact of the matter is that real
select esrgs have not been generallr
offered on the' publi? market because
prices there were too low and pro
ducers sold their stock" for more monei
elsewhere. Bulk pf the offednjrs con
stated of pullet size and some were
asking select ess prices for these. ;
J Several; days ago effort was made or
I leading: producers and ethers to secure
I an adequate prioe for uch 'stock on
the market, but the request was tumsa
down by the city commissioner, .ac
cording to those in charge of the mar
ket. Chickens 'remain at the - old price,
both ot the public market andJ in re
tail shops. f ?"
Peaches are fast disappearing from
the market and there is ivory little
demand.

Generally softer tone is indicated again in
the world's wheat trade, but sseh a condi
tion has been exnected for ocn time :rast. in
fact has been overdue. The demoralisation
of the British political situation as well aa ad
verse foreign affairs generally, have had: the
effect of quieting to a more or less degree.
the present saw of wheat, abroad. Foreign
demand is quiet and Liverpool options w
again unchanged to 4d lower for the day.
At Pacific Northwest primary points then
ia practically a nominal movement of wheat
o far aa new sales are concerned. Strike
conditions at Portland and the inability of the
railroad to gave any sort of reasonable serv
ice, have combined to quiet the demand.
Exporters aa a rule were either nominal buyers
or out ox tne marcei lemporaruy.
Most of them acknowledge that there is
practically no chance to purchase wheat at
country points below prevailing values for
cash stuff, therefore, they are making few
bids.
Flour market continue firm for domestic
trade, but expert businesg is Quiet at the
moment.
Mills tuffs continue scarce and firmly priced.
Broomhall cabled: -
United Kingdom Wheat quiet and demand
slower. Millers show interest only a mild
interest. Quantities of wheat off coast are
increasing, and this has served to take the
edge pit the urgent demand for near-by, par
cels. Parcels of Manitoba for forward ship
ment are inclined To drag, with buyers being
lniiuencea to nota on by tbe liberal offer
ings of Argentine new crop wheat for December-January
shipment st concessionary prices.
Corn continues quiet, with demand slow. Ship
pers' offers of corn are in fairly good relume,
but are not being pressed for sale.
Argentina The market for wheat in Buenos
Aires remains quiet but steady. Foreign de
mand for whes.t is leas actiTe, but country of
fers are not pressing. Old supplies of wheat
are believed to be rather moderate, but the
outlcffx for the new crop ia considered gener
ally favorable

North Portland had the typical Saturday
trade for the week-end. with two loads reported
ia the alleys and an absence of buyers. An
prices were unchanged.
Market showed lust a handful of swine in
the alleys for tbe week -end and there was
practically no activity. Prevailing prices for
hogs hers continue in excess of what it cost
to bring ia stock from the Midweat, therefore
the big killer are not interested except to force
the other fellow to pay the price.
