MINISTERS WILL
CHANGE PULPITS
The value of Christian education to
a community will be emphasised in
practically every Methodist Episcopal
church of Portland tomorrow. To more
forcibly impress the message upon the
minds of the members.; an exchange of
pulpits in all Portland district churches,
except the three larger churches, has
' been arranged by a committee appoint
ed by Dr. William' Wallace Youngaon,
v-district superintendent.,
These sermons come as the opening
Twedge to the Sl.IKi.OOO endowment
campaign for Willamette university,
rto be' launched throughout the state
on November 19. The campaign is to
continue for one month, closing the
flight of December 20. Successful termination-f
the campaign will bring
a $350,000 endowment gift from the
Rockefeller foundation.
Besides the $350,000, over $200,000
has already been pledged. Gifts of
$100,000 from R. A. Booth of Eugene,
and E. S. Collins of Portland ; $5000
. from J.. W.. Day and Dr. W. W. Young
aon of Portland, and $2500 from Dr.
Carl H. Doney of Salem, have been
. announced.

Interest in the evangeliiUc campaign at the
East Side Christian rnurch is growing. The

There have been more than 60 edmissiona. thus
far. Splendid audiences heir the evangelist
each night. The orchestral concert given by
Evangelist Roes, Mrs. Boss and their daughter.

A large chorus choir assists with the mu-ic
and there are special solos and other musical
features each evening. The luncheon and
program for men and boys last Sunday fol
lowing the morning service was participated
in by a larga gronp. Evangelist Russ de

tive plans were laid for organizing the "Order
of Marksmen." Tomorrow services will com
mence at 9:45 with a concert by the Roes
trio. Bible school attendance goal is set for
350. There will be a solo at the morning
service by little Miss Thelma Lenon. At 1 1
o'clock the evangelist will speak. Evangelist
Ross has announced his subject for next week

A new feature of the work of the
Portland Union Bible classes Is a study
crass for boys and girla of sclfool age,
held at 4 o'clock on Friday afternoon
at Calvary Presbyterian" church. The
Rev. B. B.. Sutcliffe, who teaches this
class, considers it to be of the greatest
importance and hopes to make it per
manent, so that those attending may
train :i ft.nsecutlve' knowledge of the
Bible. The earnest spirit of the yS
neopls oresent last Friday was shown
in the fact that many of them took
notes for use in their study during the
week.
