There appears far lest desire on the part of Cali fornia interest 'to purchase in this market . Aecumularions are fnnin to make them eelTea fe!t although yet there U no general - prica cutting. , Bet: centrmHzer cube are1 quoted here around 44c a pound. While aalea were a ' short time ago made a high a 4K6Hc a pound to California, creamery interest say that this is scarcely better than a 44c market , foe 92 score for local sale. J lint why there should be uch a fight for butterfat in the face of depression in the cube market is one of those mysteries i that can be explained only by the fact that the creamery butter industry has out shown a profit here for an extended period. Review of the butter market at San Fran 'cisco for the week ending Friday i Prices of all grades of butter continued to advance at San Francisco during the past week. The net advance for. 92 score was 2c. which brines the price -nf; this grade ihke above that of the corresponding day last year. The good dnmand and scarcity of fancy butter caused a very firm undertone t and dealers think further advances are bound to come. The market was alo strengthened 'by the pre- . liminary ."report of cold etorage holdings, which showed a vey heavy reduction uring the past ' month. LaSe?t available holdings at Portland, Seattle. Los Angeles and San Francisco show an excess over last year of 1.223,237 pounds for the four market Receipts during the . week include heavy shipment- from Oregon. Washington. . I'tah. North Dakota and Colo rado. . While there is no 'definite information on offess o? Australian nutter,, dealers say it can be bought for 40 42c for delivery about the middle nf December. . Review of the butter markets at New York, , Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia for the week: After almost a week -of steady unchanging .conditions, the Eastern markets became con siderably firmer at the clce. . principally be cause, of the preliminary storage report, which showed the total holdings of butter in the -X'nited States to be 98, TOR, 000 pounds, and ,592,0(10' pounds in excess of last year's -, totals. Earlier in the ink the markets were not so firm- as during previous' weeks. Prices apparently hare reached the level where the holders of storage butter were, willing to sell "freely. As a result, any effort to advance '" prices was ca?t with frepr offerings of storage butter, and at the same time a decline was very unprovable because offerings of storage - Gutter were generally firmly held for small profit. Fancy bntter all week was well cleaned 1 up. but as timei, especially immediately after aa advance, the market appeared a little tp heavy, but 'iibnient trading proved that the new price level was .justified. Voder grades ' were in more liberal supply and harder to move, especially on the Eastern coast markets. . There were no price reductions, but Eastern receivers complain of considerable difficulty '.in moving these grade. At Chicago all scores were kept "well cleaned up and storage butter was freely used at practically unchanged prices all Week. The preliminary report, whihe showed the-surplus to be from 3.000i000 to 5.000, 000 lejis than was generally expected, caused H grades to become firmer, including storage butter. In New York a full cent advance on storage 92 was registered today. Those desiring special information regarding any market, should write the Corrsmercial Edi tor, Oregon Journal, inclosing stamp for reply. EGG , SITUATION BATHER EAST Market for eggs is showing a rather easy tone at the moment last week's liberal strength has entirely disappeared. With stor age stock selling very freely there has been ' little: movement in fresh goods. With an in - crease in offerings of the latter, supplies be gan to accumulate. SMALT- FOWLS SELLING 8I.OWLT While there continues a good demand and steadv to firmprices for heavy weigrft springs and hens, light weight offerings are somewhat duller with springs especially inclined - to show decreased movement. : SALWAT PEACH SUPPLT LIBERAL Quite liberal supplies of Salway peaches .came to the market for the week opening, re sulting in a loss of 1 0c to 1 5c in the price. "Extreme top is $1, with the bulk of the good staff going 5c to lOo lower. APPLE ACTIVITY HAS SLIGHT GAIN Br Hvman H; Cohehn Slight showing of activity ia indicated for apple at Pacific Northwest points, but condi tions are still usnatUfactory in the Eastern markets, which are flooded with consignments from this territory. Only in tslolated instances is there any really fair showing of activity in the Eastern and Midwest trade, the markets of the country aa a rule being quoted with a alow and dull interest in the apple market is per haps the leading feature of the primary trade of the territory. Some fairly liberal purchase are reported for European account, but in the main there is more of a desire among foreign ers -to. secure consignments than to purchase f. o b. shipping stations. Bemembering their experiences of recent years, even though home markets are rather fair then while little was obtained for foreign consignments, there is much less desire on the part of orchard inter ests here to inflict therr supplies upon. There still appears an almost general disposition among milling interests to look upon $1.25 tidewater track basis aa the tight price for milling wheats such as the Big Bend bluestem. Baart and Marquis, but there appear two sides to the story at the moment. While millers are not bidding above $1.25 generally for these wheats, hold ers and they are at present in control are unwilling to do business below $1.30. For the limited supplies of the better class mining wheats they are getting this prica generally, although here and there an occasional (mall 1st may be grabbed at $1.25 per bushel, tide water basis. . ' Iti is because of the extreme scarcity of milling wheat offering that patent flour prices shown no greater decline than announced Sat urday in these columns. When it was previ ously decided upon at $6.75 prica for new crop patent, there was no belief that any thing above $1.25 would he demanded, or paid, for milling wheats. With actual business as high as $1.30 for bluestem, millers then revised their patent price with new crop at $7 per barrel. Limited supplies of old crop patent continue at $7.20. While occasional lots of flour continue to move to the Orient, present business is not brisk, although prices are "held firm at $4.90 for club straight and $5.10 5.20 for blue stem cutoff. Foreign markets were steady to higher, with Liverpool unchanged to S d up at the closing. Chicago options started slightly easier.
