W. tb Have Festival Frolic Lasting 5 Days i i THE Modern Woodmen off America will have a festival 'frolic for five days and nights, begin ningi October 10, preliminary to their great 25th an niversary meetings of October 27-28. These meetings "will commemorate the organization of the- first Woodmen camp west of the Rocky mountains, which camp was -Oregon Fir 5085, es tablished in Portland, Or., October 21, 189T. The Royal Neighbors of America, the Women's Auxiliary to the M. "W. A., will take an active part in thes two days' celebration. There will be competitive drills be tween Foresters. This branch of the organization is" a semi-military one. The soldiersof Woodcraft are men who have seen active- service in the United States army and navy. Thou sands were overseas and many of. them made the supreme sacrifice during the World war. ' Mt Hood tent and Golden Rule Re view' No. 17 of the Maccabees enter tained friends and, members with a social evening Friday at Auditorium hall. No. 208 Third street. A pleas ing feature of the evening's entertain ment was the presentation by Miss Alys Brown of the Modern Conserva tory of Music of six of her pupils, Elma Rupel. Eneta Austin, Maxline Rankin, Jeanette Glandcn, Billle Frost and Ena Carauk, in fancy dancing. They were accompanied by Mias Lucy Gir.arctti at the piano. Uttle Miss Geneva. Nubson gave a reading Lei ia Dye ."a vocal solo. . accompanied by Alma, Dye ; Miss "Vera Smith, Harey Hawkins and--Mr. Carlson each enter tained with a violin solo ; Dr. B. The Knights .Templars !of Portland will open their social season at Chris tensens hall Monday evening "with a dancing party given by the drill corps, of Oregon commandery. 'i'hese parties are by subscription, and Sare open to Jvnights Templars only. The proceeds go to defray the expenses of the drill corps' participation In the triennial conclave to be' held in Seattle lh 1925. This is the tenth year that Oregon commandery has sponsored these par ties, and they have steadily grown from a very small assembly , of 30 to 40 cou ple, until now it is not uncommon to see 100 to 150 couple in attendance. The committee in charge of these parties are : Fj-ed O. Jenning, chairman ; H. A. Crotocock, -Jr. - C. H. Sigglin. Ben F. Green, A. G. Findjay, V. W. Howell, George B. Cellars. M., has a loan .fund from which sons 'and ; daughters of Masons and Masonic students may obtain financial assistance, "Applications must have the recommendation of President W. J. Kerr, and -; the approval of the master sand wardens of local Masonic l(dgr(!. This loan fuiid is part of the- educa tional fund of the grand lodge of Ore gon. A. F. & A. M.. and consists of $4000, divided equally between the. Uni versity of Oregon and O. A. C. J- Marguerite Camp, No. 1440, Royal Neightsors of America, held a' meeting at their hall. Blanche Hoffman, chairman. ; i Odd Fellows' Play Is Given Highest Praise WITHIN 24 hours jLfter the curtain fell closing "the lasC act of "TJndle "Rube," given at Swiss ball, Tuesday evening Walter R. Rea manager and director, was approached by various representatives of out of town lodges of the I." O. O. Ft o repeat the play in outlying communities. . The play vividly portrays characters of rural Vermont .and was written by Charles Townsend. The succass of the play was due principally to the ;untlring ef forts of the- entire cast and their two months of patient rehearsing. A wonderful showing "waa made by Dr. S. "W. Btryker as genial "Uncle Rube," and : his impersonation of the Yankee farmer was good to see. Miss Edna Larson, the soubrette, .made a great hit in presenting the character of a waif from the tenerhent house district of NVw York. She showed re- inarkable ability in her lines and car ried off a goodly portion of the hon ors of the evening. S. A. Tully as the miserly deacon put over his character in a splendid way. In fact, every member of the cast displayed Unusual ability in handling his part. Among the players are E. A. Dock steader, C. E.' Robinson, Eugene Dowl ing, Mrs. Hal" Campbell. Charles Mackay, Miss Delia Rea, Dr. S. W. Stryker, Miss Dorys Frazler, Miss Edna Larson. J. F. Jayne, S. A. Tully and W. R. Stiles. Walter Rea as man ager and director, an entertainer him self, who promoted the play, expressed satisfaction with the careful work of the members of the cast. It is quite probable that the entertainment will be repeated in the near future for the :;benefit of the Portland Odd Fellows' band. -: Oopia Social .club announces its opening dance and card party to be held in. WH held a large meeting .at its hall Friday evening, attended by several hundred members. Consul Commander E. A. Clark presided.
