Fifty-one ,"oW seidiers" woke up in
the county Jail this morning.
Civil war veterans here for the na
tional Grand Army encampment this
week were guests or Sheriff Winfred
E. Robb of Folk county, after they had
found hotels, rooming bouses and oth
er sleeping quarters jammed. -
Iron cots covered both floors of the
jail. Some of the boys of '61 had -to
sleep in cells. Before going to bed,
the veterans were given a raeal of ham
and eggs in the Jail kitchen! The ex
pense Is to be paid by the sheriff him

afternoon a garden party will be held
at the homes of Clyde I Herring,
Democratic candidate for United, States

Coolidge for making it appear 'that
the seceding states were just as
righteous in their cause as was the
union.

Klan.
"Any. secret society that fosters class
hatred "is a menace to the welfare of
--the United States," he declared.
The recent radroad and coal strikes
were a "gigantic conspiracy," McBride
charged.

men," he said. TThe government should
go the whole way to protect the la
borers in their constitutional rights."

FARMERS HIT HARD
The new tax on fertilisers will cost
the farmers of the country $45,000,000
a year, the Democrats declare. This
represents an individual expenditure of
approximately $1.25 annually, if, the
farmers represent one third of the total
population. They also predict that
they will pay 66 2-3 per cent more for
hand saws and cross cut saws; 10 per
cent more for hubs and wagon: blocks ;
and 55 per cent more for harness-hardware.
"Wheat flour, formerly free, is to be
taxed $1.56 a barrel," they say, "and
this grab of millions annually goes to
the big millers and food speculators."
