The majority in favor of hearing real orchestras In preference to "canned'" music is. heavy and many of those sending in the questionnaires make comment on the Inferiority of some of the programs now sent out by Portland broadcasting stations. One fan said, "I have and am spending considerable money on my- set and want better programs." The returns sent in so far show that radio fans prefer instrumental music to vocal selections. The vote on this question is more than four to one In favor of instrumental music. The popularity of The Journal news bulletins and baseball scores, broad cast by Hallock & Watson, is also at tested by the returns. With a few ex ceptions the fans are voting solH for this feature of the programs. ing out of form. You have witnessed many sales in the past. You have seen "CLOSING OUT SALES," "SURPRISE SALES," "FIRE SALES," "BANKRUPT SALES" and many other similar sales. None of them ever had as strong a meaning as this $100,000 TURNOVER DRIVE. IT IS A CASE OF PAY OR YOU ARE WIPED OUT! What can a man do in such a FIX? When he has no money put away to keep the wolves from the door, what is he to do in SUCH A PINCH? Where is he to go? Where is he to look ? How can he meet creditors' demands what can he offer at a creditors' meeting? It is a case of days or hours. The SHERIFF stands ready with th hand of the law-to act as quickly as possible when CREDITORS ORDER HIM TO FIRE THE DEADLY BLOW NOW, MY FRIENDS, you understand what it means for a man to be under such a terrific strain. I have been in business here in Portland for 12 long years. It took lots of hard work and days and nights of struggle to build up the REPUTATION OF THIS STORE, in gaining the CONFIDENCE OF THE PUBLIC and making THOUSANDS OF STEADY CUSTOMERS AND FRIENDS. ALL THIS MEANS MORE TO ME THAN MONEY. While I had the sad experience last year to lose my MONEY, I did NOT LOSE my customers. They are still with me; they appreciate the honest mer chandise and low prices given -them in the past so to lose such a business and such customers overnight is CRITICAL and SAD. THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY OUT.. THAT IS QUICK ACTION and THAT MEANS TO SELL AT, ANY PRICE While some creditors might give a reasonable time to raise the money, I MUST GET THAT TURNOVER IN A SHORT TIME.
