which will leave the Union depot at

load of exposition boosters, to visit

Three table d'hote meals will be
served each day during the trip and
the dinners will consist of fiVe courses.
In the observation ear an attendant
vfHI be in charge of soft drinks, cigars,
cigarettes, etc. and special attention
will be given to watering and icing the
train. At. all stop-over points the train
will be parked in convenient and ac
cessible locations and especial atten
tion wiU be given to the stop at Pendle
ton as the train will be continuously
occupied during the stay, there.
TO VISIT HOUmj-TJP
A day and night will be spent at
Pendleton while the excursionists are
given an opportunity to take In the
Round-Up with its Happy Canyon and
other attractions.
Entertainment for the visitors is be
ing arranged at many of the points of
call and this will be accepted by the
Pertlanders, the caravan directors say,
bijt they will not permit pleasure to
interfere with the real purpose of the
trip, which is to inform the people of
Eastern Oregon as to the plans of the
exposition committee and to urge them
to vote in favor of the measure on
the ballot at the November election
that will permit Portland to raise the
money necessary to finance the expo
sition. The caravan will return to Portland
at 7 :45 a. m. Friday; September 22.
The fare for the round trip, including
sleeper, meals and the , attractions at
Pendleton, will be $51.79. William P

placed In charge of the excursion by
Mayor Baker and applications for res
ervations are to be made with him.

the forest service, has returned from

tablished direct telephone communica

a suspension bridge across the Cispus
river. It will have direct connection
over the mountain from Lewis with
the Nachea country. ,
On the Snoqualmle, according to -Allen,
the service la extending its lines
north, connection with the central sta
tion at Skykomlsh.
An extension of the Icicle line on the
"Wenatchee forest' up the Cle El urn
river will give the central station at
Leavenworth direct connection with
all the points In the eastern ranger district.

Mayor Designates
White Cross Week
Mayor Baker has designated-' the
second week in October as White Cross
week, and special offer will be made
then to increase the membership of
the White Cross, to strengthen the
fight against Illegal sale and use of
narcotics. Rev. Oswald Taylor pre
sided at the meeting of 25 representa
tives of fraternal and labor organ
izations Wednesday at the Chamber of
Commerce. The mayor was the prin
cipal speaker.
