Developments of late In the butter market indicate that the rwal reason for the very oft tone in the market for ordinary to off grade staff is the withdrawal of short held storage butter- This stock is coming out prac tically without a profit but stores are evidently seeking to keep on the safe side by reducing their holdings. This stock is taking the place of the ordinary stuff, therefore, the very limited and weak demand for the latter. There was a holiday at Liverpool Saturday and there will be no session ther kfonday. Buenos Aires reflected a slight improvement in the South American situation ; this probe -bty being a belated recognition of the re cent bull movement at other points. A slight fight for immediate supplies of club wheat boosted cash to $1.14 a bushel here for the day. although the gen eral quotation wa considered fully high at $1.13 per busheL The country appears much less willing to sell, but this may be due more to the work of cleaning up har vest in the earlier sections than any de sirs to hold the selling movement back 1 Aside from club wheat there is little disposition to bid high st this time. Even blueetem bids, while showing a hberal pre mium aboe the club, are not nearly so active ss one might imagine in view cf the extreme shortage tf that crop this season. The following cable from Australia if os much interest: Orowth of the new wheat crop is progressing only slowly in the state of New South Wales. The new crop is now estimated at 40,000,000 bushels, but the remaining surplus of old wheat left available for export is reckoned to be around 8.200.000 bushels, the smallest on record. Total exports this season amounted to 71,000,000 bushels so far, out of the 80,000. 000 bushels first estimated at the beginning Of the season. Lack of buying interest was again noticeable in the cotton market this morning and chiefly was responsible for the opening decline of 2 to 0 points, which later videned out into net losses of about 10 point. It prevented any response to evidences of a return of high temperatures in the Southwest ever night and to private advices claiming that the Texas situation was becoming so serious that nothing but a hard rain could relieve it and that showers now would do more harm than good. It was also said thtt boll weevil had ap peared in the Southwest low lands and were mat only destroying much cotton, but were increasing. Cotton on shipboard awaiting e lea ranee at the end of the week waa eetsmated at 49.000 bales, against 85,000 last year.
