Strike Neva Favorable The financial community be lie res that if the railroad strike is aettled before the end of thia week it will hart a powerful effect on the coal aituabon. The inTiuUon iatued by Chief J- L- Lwis of the eoalminers' union to opera tors of the Middle West to meet with union leaders in Cleveland on next Monday waa quite the most encouraging occurrence notl in the Jong disturbance. Stocks for a fortnight hare been 4ieount!ng the end of both strike. In this rrocenn, snch representative rails as Penn-(-ylvania. New York Central. Norfolk & West ern. Rock Island. St. Paul and 'hesaieake & Ohio have risen a point t.- more than 2 points and paat market history r-ucgesta the possibility of reaction when the good news finally comes out, About the only feature of the rails today was a bulge of St. Paul common and preferred. . which, however, eased off later. . Chandler Motor waa ad Tersely affected by new motor price cuts among competitors and Studebaxer fluctuated widely Flurry In Gas In the last hour, a flurry in Consolidated Gas. carrying it up about 2 points, drew at tention to the fact that today marked the end of bond conversions which theoretically had been holding the stock down. Call money waa in better supply than on Monday, lending at 4 per cent. Cotton options fin ally reached levels more than S a bale higher than the day before and a late reac tion was not sufficient to impair the market's strength. Foreign exoh&ngea were inclined to sag. marks rt aching a new low point uuder 15-100. Weak at Olose A weak tone developed in stocks near the close of the market when profeseional specu lators became active, following rumors thata the railroad executives in their meeting here were not unanimous about dealing with the seniority rights of striking shopmen. Rtudebaker, Chandler and rubber stocks were under pressure throughout the day. Kails displayed little more than a hesitant and irregular tendency until they were offered down m ' the final market As a whol the market actei in keeping with uncertainties about the stock and where weakness developed it was not plain that much realising occurred. There is an abundance of water supply now on the district, which only requires divert ing to those portions of the district where it is most needed. Water is provided from large springs, the runoff snow from the Cascade Mountains, Big Butte and Little Butte Creeks.
