ISSUE BUSINESS
MEN'S PROBLEM
Issue Involved in the Central Pacific-Southern
Pacific-Union Pacific
controversy are of , such tremendous
Importance to Oret-6n and Portland
that It would be advantageous to have
all the facta placed before the business
tntereeta C the state and then let the
decision come aa to Oregon's stand
after a fair- time had been given for
consideration.
This was the' attitude expressed by
the special : rallwav committee of the
Chamber ? :i Commerce following- its
meeting Tuesday afternoon with Wil
liam Sproule, president of the Southern
Pacific company. ; Thcxje in attendance
at the nseetina were : H. B. VnDur,
chairman : Nathan Strauss, 1- Allen
Lewis, Emery OUnstead, Ira F. Powers.
I. A. Nitchy and George Lawrence Jr.
Sproule reiterated to the committee
the desire that Portland and Oregon
align themselves with the Southern Pa
cific. The. committee has been hearing
ine viewpoints ox ootn ratiroaas ana
announced that it had formed no con
clusion as to procedure and that there
could be no suggestion from any source
that there was a division of opinion
because no effort, has yet been made
by the committee or its members to
, decide the case until all facts had been
presented and considered fully.
