ular with tourists during the summer

Woman Editor' to Be Gneit The
Oregon Writers league will honor Mrs.
Anna Steese . Richardson, associate ed
itor of the Woman's Honie Companion,
with a luncheon Wednesday at the Uni
versity club. Mrs. Richardson is find
ing so much interesting -material in
-Portland that she is extending her stay.
She is visiting the apple orchards of

Passenger Agent .Recovering James
M. (Jim) Casey, passenger agent for the
Chicago. Milwaukee & St. Paul, is at
Derr sanitafum recovering slowly from
a stroke of paralysis. Nurses reported
.Saturday he was slightly better. Casey
'was taken to the sanitarium Thursday
night after a stroke which affected his
right side. He lives at No. 375 East
14th street North. For many years be
has been employe! in the .local office
of the Chicago. Milwaukee & St. Paul
and was a familiar figure along the old

Worth Dakota Society The North Da
kota State society will hold .its final
meeting of the season at Turn Verein

Two Hashers Fined Wilson Crane and
Harry Raymond each paid $15 fines in
municipal court Saturday for violating
the. "mashing" ordinance Patrolman
Chamberlain' testified' he first saw them
make overtures to ' young women at
Third and Jefferson streets. They were
in an automobile. Chamberlain said, and
beckoned to at least three parties be
fore- he arrested them, after following
them for several blocks Both -the de
fendants pleaded not guilty.

watchman motioned ,im away from a
freshly laid patch in the pavement at
Wales street .and Hawthorne avenue,
and as a result he paid a fine of $25 in
municipal court Saturday. Ha was ar

field, who charged that he paid no at
tention to signs and signals to keep off
the repair work.

Shirt Thief Sentenced Fred HilL 27
year-old jeweler, was sentenced to 83
days on the rock pile by Judge Rossman
Saturday on a charge of larceny after
police testified he had stolen several
shirts. Police testified his "game was to
steal merchandise from automobiles and
then return it to the store from which
it was purchased for a refund ;

Apartment Sobbed Thieves entered
the apartments of G. L. Amell, No. 14
North Grand avenue, Friday night, and
made away with a revolver and a quan

into the Imperial hotel's street, elevator
about 3 o'clock on the morning of

No. 264 Jefferson street, slept Saturday
morning a sneak thief entered his room
and stole $50 in cash. Entrance was

thieves who smashed the glass out of
a rear door Saturday afternoon and
ransacked the house while the family

Eugene. May 20. The Eugene Bible
university proposes to - build a $12,000
dormitory at the Junior Girls' college,
located a mile south of the main
buildings of the university, t Baker hall
is to be remodeled and used for dining,
recreational and laundry purposes.
Twenty-five girls between the ages of
8 and 18 live at the- boarding school
while attending the public schools. !rhe
university has recently come into pos
session of 25 lots just south of the Odd
Fellows cemetery. The annual meeting
of the trustees will be -held May 27.
A patent has been granted a resident
of Washington, D. C, for a metallic
filler for cracks and scorings in the wails
of cylinders so that they do not need
reboring.

THE annual gathering of the Odd Felt
lows of Oregon: will i take place at
Eugene -from May 22 to May 25. i
The Department Council, which is the
military branch' of the order, will start
the session with, al meeting of all de
partment heads on the morning of May
22. meeting at theL O. O. F. temple at
10 o'clock and continuing during , the
day. In the evening of tbe same day the
Decoration of Chivalry will i be con
ferred upon a large class of candidates
at the women's buijlding of the Univer
sity of Oregon. ; ; m y '!; Jij
On Tuesday morning the Rebckah
assembly of Oregon. which Is com
posed of delegates from the 209 active
Kebekah lodges of j the jurisdiction, will
convene in the Elks building at 9 a. m.
At the hour of 10 the grand encamp
ment will begin its session at the
Odd Fellows temple. At' 4 :30 the Ladles'
Auxiliary of the canton will have a
special meeting far the conferring- of
the Decoration of" Chivalry on their
members. On Tuesday evening at'
o'clock the past masters' banquet will
take place at the Chamber of Commerce
rooms. Later in the evening the grand
reception will take place at the women's
building. A special session , of grand
lodge will also Ttm held on Tuesday
evening to confer the grand lodge, de
gree on all past grands present. : ' H
The regular session of grand lodge
will begin on Wednesday at 10 a. m,
meeting in the Armory and continuing
two full days. The, general parade will
take place on Wednesday afternoon and
will be followed by the competitive drill
and sightseeing trips. I In the competi
tipn for prises in these drills will be at
least 10 teams from 10 to 30 marching
in a team. The five sHver cups won by
the contestants last year will again be
up for competition and if won the sec
ond time will become the property of
their lodges. Portland will have at least
four different teams is the field and
possibly five. Salem, JEugene and , sev
eral other localities a'ro sending teams
to lay claim to these prises.' : :.
On Wednesday evening, the Muscovites
will stage their mirthmaking ; parade.
This "Sunshine Branch of Odd Fellow
ship" has about 1000 members, and the
noble czar has asked i that each mem
ber bring his fez and broadest smile
to wear during the whole session. if'
On Thursday evening, just to relieve
the tension of the two days in grand
lodge, the Orientals have agreed to show
the boys a few stunts that have not
been seen before in this jurisdiction.
They have a sanctorum, organized on
January 28 this year at Eugene, which
now numbers about 200 neophytes. It
is called "Acola Santorum." and John
W. Zimmerman holds the title Of "grand
hyastytee" whatever that my be.
