Unless weather conditions change again
a lower price Is expected to result from
increased offerings in the wholesale and
retail trade.
Because of a fight for business, flour
is actually being sold in some of the
cah and carry retail shops at a lower
price than the retailers pay tothe muia
This seems impossible but is a fact.
Fight for buslnees is keen and some of
the stores are using flour and sugar as
an advertisement to secure the crowds.
With the latest advance in sugar, the
market has recently shown considerable
strength, although the total rise is but
0c a sack. At some retail shops sugar
is being sold at cost or a fraction below
cost.
Because of the scarcity of offerings
and the higher prices at wholesale, retail
prices are higher. Generally at 52c
for best dressed.

Beeaaee of the absence of sacrifice often
of prune from tha Pacific coast, there ia a
decidedly tinner tone for apot supplies ia the
Eastern trade at this time.
Special reporU received by The Journal from
New fork eon ructions indicate that the trade
there ia no longer able to pick up "anapa"
from weak-kneed holders, and the rarioua grow
eta' amoaatione are reporting a fair volume
of bosineaa at recent adraneea.
There ia no disposition among grower to
force farther price advances for prunes at this
time, a it is believed that values have reached
a point where they win be about as high as
the ccettumer can afford to purchase. In fact
ine larger auea are com ma ruling such a premium
tliat it ia impossible to get them into active
consumption if supplies were available. For the
limited stock there is demand for an the large
prunes in sight.
Noticeable activity among packing intererta
haa been shown recently in the effort to secure
stock from growers.

Fears Entertained for Wheat Crop
lurrtaburg. Or.. Jan. 21. There is some
' here among local farmers that tba unset

Plenty of Hay, but
Not Enough Cattle
Wenatchee, Wash., Jan. 21. The Okanogan
country has plenty of hay this winter and not
enough stock to eat it." said W. W. Howard.
viicai, ..vriiieru agent 01 lonasgei, WOlle he U
!n.We,?tch" Tuesday- "The growers win buy
2000 head of feeders if they can buy at the
right price. They have about 5000 tona of
surplus hay. They can feed stock through the
winter, turn them out on the range in the
spring and sell them in the fall as 2-year-otd
or carry them over another year. I estimate
that the Okanomn will ship 3000 tons of high
class hay to Wenatchee and vicinity." be said.
E. J. Judd. cattle raiser of Tonaaket. was
also in Wenatchee Tuesday. He was on his way
home from Grant county, where he wss looking
for stock to buy. Mr. Judd says: "The cattle
that Okanogan ranchers are buying is good, pure
bred stock of the feeder type. They are mostly
Herefords and Durham, with a few Aberdeen
Angus. Tbe breed is improving."
