North Portland dragged wearily in 'all di
visions where supplies were available for the
Tuesday morning trade. The strength of the
early Monday asssion disappeared like magic,
the bulk of the Monday afternoon sales being
made at little price change from the previous
week. The small trade at the higher price sim
ply gave packers their looked for opportunity
to advance quotations on dressed stock. Tues
day's run was 13 cars compared with 12 ears a
eek ago. 18 cars the previous week and none a
year ago for this same day.
No early trading whatever was shown in the
bog alleys at North Portland Tuesday morning.
While only a small run of local stock was
shown, killers are not seeking such supplies be
cause they are supporting the midwest hog in
dustry and do not care a snap for the local
sniproentB.
While only 482 head were reported m the
North Portland alleys at the Tuesday hog open
ing, utter neglect was shown in trade. At. best
the early market was slow and weak.

Cattle lost every bit of the Monday sdvsnce
at the opening of the Tueeday trade and then
some. For instance, -no higher price was quoted
for top steers in the North Portland alleys Mon
day but Tuesday's prices were off fully 25c,
with an extreme of $7.50 to the steer division.
Cows and heifers lost every particle of the pre
vious advance in the livestock market, but
dressed stock to retailers is still commanding
the previous advance. Bulla likewise lrct all
the improvement in price.

No Mutton Arrives
Nothing came forward to the sheep and lamb
trade at North Portland for Tuesday morning.
Traders reported a nominally steady tone, but
this appeared due to the lack of supplies.
Whether the market would drop, like other lines,
if anything showed up, remains to be seen. In
the meantime quotations are unchanged.
