Morrow county, with its area of 2025 square miles, is almost identical in size
as' the state of Delaware. It is essentially an agricultural and livestock coun
try. The 1921 wheat crop totaled more than 2,000,000 bushels and the wool
clip exceeded 2,250,000 pounds. The cattle industry likewise is well developed
and dairying and diversified farming are on the increase.
Out of a total population of 5617 (1920 census) 88 are American born and
of the remainder one-third are French and two-thirds Canadians, Germans and
Scandinavians.
There are 64,93 miles of railroad within the. county, including the main line of
the O.-W. R. & N. and a branch line into Heppner, the county seat. Water
transportation is afforded by the Columbia river.
