Just listen to this, yon weather fore
casters :
Tha first genuine Royal Chinook sal
mon of the 1921-22 season has been
caught In tb mid-Columbia and brought
to Portland. The Portland Pish com
pany, wholesalers, report the Initial ar
rival of the sprint: Chinook. It weighed
22 pounds and sold to a retailer at 20c
a pound.
According; to C. J. B. Malarkey of the
wholesale firm, this is the earliest that
a genuine string Royal Chinook salmon
has been caught tn the Columbia river
for over 12 year. About la years ago
the Malar key Fieh company, of which
Mr. Malarkey was the head, received a
Royal Chinook salmon November 12. Its
arrival was so early that few of the
trade would then believe it to be the
genuine fish.
The arrival of Royal Chinook salmon
this early tn the season is taken by some
to Indicate a very early spring but to
offset this forecast la the fart that not
a single arrival of Columbia river smelt
has been received In Portland, while
usually this fish comes In small lots just
previous to Thanksgiving.

Harding Is certain if the executive tries
to establish his hopd for Association of
Nations on a set of unwritten "gentle
men s agreements.
The mere suggestion that the assocla
Uon might function without a written
constitution has outraged those senate
constitutionalists who are very jealous
of the senate's part in foreign relations.
Many senators would regard an at
tempt by Harding to bind the United
States into an association by mere gen
tlemen's agreements as an invasion of
the senate's prerogatives.
