James Aiken Smith, pastor of the First
PTeabyterian church at La Grande, Or,
was formally called Sunday, to the pas
torate of the' Hope Presbyterian church
of Portland. The Rev. Mr. Smith -came
to Portland Sunday upon the invitation
of Ote local congregation and preached
two sermons. He is expected to give his
answer to the congregation next Sunday
morning. ' The vacancy in Hope church
was caused by the drowning last sum
mer in the Sandy river-of .the pastor, the
Rev. H. K Giles, while rescuing a Boy

Pole Hearing Again Postponed Hear

' mission by the Postal Telegraph com-
pany was postponed again at Monday's
session of the federal court. On the
motion of attorneys the case waa set
over until October 28 for hearing. The
telegraph company is seeking to have
the highway commission enjoined from
interfering with the erection of a tele
graph line along the lower Columbia
river highway from Coble to Astoria.

land Federation of Churches will be held
