ing, being moderately low rem California and
Arizona northward to Idaho and northeastward
to Minnesota and Manitoba, and moderately high
in other sections. Precipitation has occurred
locally in parts of Idaho, Montana. British Co
lumbia. Manitoba, North Dakota. Tennessee, and
New York. The tempers cure is much lower in
Southeastern Idaho, and is generally below nor
mal on the middle and north Pacific slope, in
the extreme northern Bosky mountain region,
and in the extreme SoutA snd above normal

Washington and Waters, when visiting
roruana last xnursday evening. They
were arrested by Police Officer More
lock, who declared that he found a little
less than two ounces more of the drug
when searching them. They waived ore-
liminary hearing, and were bound over
by Commissioner Kenneth A. Frazer
late Tuesday afternoon to appear before
the stand jury at the time of its next
meeting.

By Welfare Society
Immediate establishment of a second
clinic of the Oregon Cooperative Infant
welfare society in the branch library of
tne lents-Mt. scott district was au
thorised at a largely attended meeting
of the society in the county courthouse
Tuesday afternoon. Dr. C- U. Moore,
medical director of the society, and the
istting Nurse association, which sup
plies the nursing service of the society,
were also instructed to investigate and
recommend the best location for a third
clinic of Use society.
Although several scores of babies have
been cared for at the initial clinic of the
society la the Neighborhood house. South
Portland, not one of these children has
died, although at the usual rate of in
fant mortality several deaths would have
occurred. The reduction of infant mor
tality by practical clinic work to the
purpose of the society.
"This society has a better opportunity
and is better organized to meet its op
portunity than any other organization
I have vialted." said Miss Harriet Leete,
field representative of the American
Child Hygiene association, who was the
speaker of the day at the Tuesday meet
bag. Mrs. & M. Blumauer stated that the
good accomplished by the initial clinic
of the society under Dr. Moore's direc
tion could scarcely he over estimated.
The next meeting of the organisation
will not be held until September and
then in connection with the South Port
land clinic

rently about 27 years old, who ap
peared before) District Judge Deich
Tuesday afternoon to answer to a charge
of larceny by bailee of some furniture,
confessed that already she had been
married seven times and that most of
these marriages had been annulled be
cause they had been entered Into too
soon after the last divorce
Mrs. Edelman wasn't bound over to
the grand jury, the court evidently tak
ing the view that the charge- of larceny
grew out of a quarrel between the nu-

Fugitive Captured

For the second time In a few hours.
Patrolman Cordes captured a fugitive
after a hot chaae In which the scenario
called for large numbers of pursuers and
theatrical dodgings. Irrle Hutchinson
had just been sentenced to 80 days la
jail Tuesday afternoon for having coa
cine In his pries a as I on. The bailiff was
escorting the next prisoner Into munic
ipal court and Hutchinson was waiting
to be taken to a ceil.
But Hutchinson grew tired of waiting,
sidled to the door and fled. Patrolman
Hatt shouted for him to halt, but this
only quickened Hutchinson's heels.
As the fugitive dashed down the stairs
and out through the lobby lined with
