RUBBER CONCERNS
OUTPUT INCREASED
By Guy T. Rockwell
Cleveland, Ohio, June 21. The
rubber . companies whose activities
center In this section apparently are
emerging from a ' business slump.
Factories in the ' automobile - trade,
rubber industry, textiles and a few
miscellaneous lines are running full
blast in some instances although the
majority 'of Industrial . p I a n t s
throughout the teritory are operating
at from JO to 45 per cent of capacity.
The Goodyear company, which la down
to a daily production of 17,000 Urea, re
ported the largest sales last week of any
similar period since September with the
rubber heel demand also good. First
one is making' 17,000 tires a day, while
Goodrich is maintaining a 15,000 dally
production, ; The latter company, la' en-
farcing a wage reduction and cutting
down office personnel. The Mason tire
sale for May exceeded . those of Mar,
1920. and the Aetna Rubber company,
manufacturers of hard . rubber products
and gloves, is running 24 hours a day.
- The Cleveland-Akron Bag company
making bags andawnings, has all its
plants running at ' capacity and busi
ness at the Empire Plow works has been
revived by a substantial order from
South Africa. Reports from wholesale
grocers indicate that : business . is hold
ing up in volume' with some slight re
duction in cash receipts. j-
