Veterans of Indian
Wars to Hold Gamp
At Pythian Temple
A banquet will be served to the In
dian -War veterans, their : wives and
widows,, who will hold their annual en
campment at ' Pythian temple Wednes
day. : A - business session to be called
at 10 a- m. will be followed by the
banquet, which will be prepared by the
sons and daughters of the veterans. ;
-For the afteraoon a program haa been
prepared , to egin at 2 o'clock, to be
presided over by Mrs. Matthew Steele,
president. The public will be admit
ted to the afternoon program, but the
banquet will be strictly for the veter
ans, their wives and widows. Anyone
wishing to accompany parents to the
banquet room must get a permit from
the secretary, Hosea Woods.

CALL for - the first state convention
f the Women's auxiliary has been
sent to the chartered auxiliary units- in
Oregon by their executive officers. Mrs.
W. A. Elvers of Portland and Mrs. Wal
ter Spalding of Salem. The convention
will be held In Eugene, Or July 1 and
2. In conjunction with the convention of
the.- state department of ' the Oregon
American Legion. Representation, will be
by units, each unite being entitled to two
delegates and an "additional delegate for
each 100 paid-up members. This 1 was
the decision reached at the . state meet
ing of . the executive committee of the
Women's auxiliary, at which the fol
lowing were present: :: Mra Fields of
Eugene. Mrs. Spalding of Salem. Mrs.
Hirshner of Hood River and Mrs. Paul

The entertainment. In conjunction with
the entertainment now being arranged
for the representatives to the conven
tion of the American Legion. will -Include
motorcycle and horse races, box
ing, dancing, shows, aero circus, ban
quet and parade, and trip up the Mc
Kenzie highway, and the legion commit
tee will be assisted by the Lane county
auxiliary, which has charge of the hous
ing for the women representatives. Eu
gene Is now taking on the aspects of
the convention city and the decorating
of the city is being handled by the
legion post- being assisted . by other or
ganizations of the city. : 1; -
At the joint meeting held in McMInn
ville by the ' McMinnville post of the
American Legion . and its auxiliary,
delegates were elected for the state con
vention and the auxiliary elected its
representatives to attend the auxiliary
convention, Howard Gildea, commander
of the post, and Glenn Macy, the adju
tant, were elected to attend the conven
tion from 4he post, and Lucy : Freeman
was . elected the representative of the
auxiliary unit. After the meeting a so
cial time was enjoyed by the legion and
the auxiliary. : f

Edward W. Van Horn, commander of
Hood River post No. 22, which baa. a
membership pf 225 members, was in at
the state office Friday to extend an
Invitation to the legion officials to meet
with the post next Monday night at
Hood River. Van Horn has been com
mander of the post for the past two
years, and promised the Hood River
post will be at the state convention In
Eugene with over 40 live wires. The
auxiliary of Hood River Pst has made
plana for staging; a strawberry and lew
cream festival on the courthouse lawn,
the proceeds to go towards providing
good cheer for the disabled In the Port
land hospitals. The auxiliary netted
over 820 from the Oriental tea giveft
for the same purpose last Thursday. ;-

of the Oregon legion of ths action ! of
Secretary of War : Weeks In f directing
that a board of seven officers to draw
up detailed ' plans for marking . all the
battlefields of France, : Belgium and
Italy where American troops fought
during the World war. "The same board
will carry the project through, after de
tails have been worked out! and ap
proved by the secretary. . This action
of Secretary Weeks comes in response
to hundreds of requests from posts of
the American Legion all over the coun
try. It is probable that markers carry
ing bronze tablets explaining the battle
actions of the various organizations will
be placed on the battlefields, as recom
mended by many American Legion posts.

NOW that the bonus bill has been lap
proved by the people of this "never
falling state of Oregon, Commandef T.
H. Boyd of Portland post No. 1 of the
American Legion pledged the continued
efforts of the organization to conduct jt
campaign of education intended to turn
the veterans to the loan feature of the
bill, rather than to the cash bonus, and
lsued a warning to the members of the
legion that : "any firms or individoala
that approach ex-service men wfth prop-,
ositions that have to do with the - ex
penditure of the aid money, should be
viewed in the same light as ambulance
chasing lawyers." He urged that there
is no. need for haste on the part of the
ex-service man, and stated that it will,
of necessity, require from three to four
months before the machinery of the new
law can begin to function. I No bene
ficiaries of this bill should obligate
themselves in any way to dispose of the
funds. The .bill was voted to help ! the
ex-service men and Commander Boyd
announced that the American Legion
will use every effort to see that every

The lone post Is endeavoring to get a
five-piece orchestra for Its July 4 and
5 celebration and also Intends to bring
a small circus to the city for that date..
One of the boxers, Kinney. 170 pounds,
held the championship in the Rainbow
division of the A.' E. F. and won the
championship medal of the Pacific coast

brings the total auxiliary units in, Ore
