Interest In the reading circle grew to such an extent that the decision was reached to hold an outdoor session. An organization was formed with Robert A. Miller as president and the first out door session was held in 1894, this being so successful that quite a little sum was left in the treasury after all expenses had been paid. The beautiful grounds at Gladstone were given on a 50-year lease, without cost to the society, by Harvey E. Cross.
